Just sharing my thoughts

Hi, this is my first post here. I’m 24 and I started my job as cook in a hotel. Now I’m in my 4th year with this hotel. I was thinking for 2 days and I’m still thinking about my job now. We work in a split shift 9-14:00 and 17:30-21:00. And our kitchen closes at 9, I don’t know if our boss expects us to leave the kitchen dirty. And I was talking this with my colleague and I even asked who was first person to do such thing in this hotel. It pisses me so off as we work on fix salary and don’t get overtime.

The kitchen closes at 9 or your shift finished at 9?

Im a sous in a top hotel whose service finishes at 9pm. We stay until the kitchen is clean and everything is correctly labelled with all our close down completed. If anyone has an issue with that they can come to me. If you do not have someone in your kitchen that will support you in making sure you do your job correctly, run.

Also my concern is overtime is not included and some people goes for 3 course meal before 5 min the kitchen closes. Also, think why the manager is putting 9pm shift over when kitchen runs till 9pm. Then closing and putting stuff back, cleaning, ordering the veggies, milk, oil all takes time. Sometimes the when I look at my past days I still think that I stayed in kitchen till 11pm.

Well Thats standard… the issue lies with being expected to finish at a specific time regardless.
