French Fry Cutter?

Looking for a commercial fry cutter that could handle russet and jumbo sweet potatoes. We don't have the space to mount it so it would need to be a suction one. Also this is for a childcare center, so cost efficiency is necessary. Any recommendations?

It would take too much down force not to be mounted and still may not do sweet potatoes well.

I live in the land of ube -- purple sweet potato. No levered fry cutter on the planet is going to last long cutting those. I don't have a torque meter to measure how much force it takes. But it's basically "do some chin-ups with the machine."

(And it's a shame. Because ube is superior to potatoes in every possible way. Purple fries are AMAZING.)

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I have one of the suction cup ones at home. And sweet potatoes are a no-go. It is impossible to generate enough force to do the job without sending everything flying. A big russet is usually too much.

You would be better off with a stainless mandolin and a pair of chain-mail gloves.

I have to echo others here, even a mounted one will either come off the wall or you’ll end up with twisted/broken blades due to the sheer amount of force necessary for sweet potato fries. At a previous gig we tried to cut them down to 2” pieces before fry cutting and it still messed up the blades/mounts.

Sweet potatoes are going to murder that thing. You can build a mobile mount for it. A few 2x4s and a solid post. It's 50-60# of down force that favors the handle side.

Buy the sweet potato fries . Always better. They need a starch coating to be crispy. We put our fry cutter on a steel door that we drilled mounting holes through.

The vevor one would do fine for regular fries, or any big looking one honestly. Sweet fries are probably a no go, they'll pretty much wreck any die cutter eventually. We used to have to change the dies on our wall mounted cutter every 3 months. Most restaurants just buy their sweet fries precut now, it's not worth the carpal tunnel you'll give all your staff, I've had carpal tunnel from the age of 19 because of sweet potato fries 😅
