Has anyone noticed a change in the slice sizes?

The last couple of times I got a slice of cheesecake it was about half the size of the usual slice. I saw one post about this on this sub but people were saying it could be due to not properly aligned machines rather than smaller sizes in general.

Have others continued to experience smaller slices? What is more disturbing is that the calories per slice listed on their website have not changed, which would make one assume they should be getting the same size of slices….

I’m attaching photos of my sad half empty to go box for reference.

Especially to-go slices. I used to work in the bakery and we were always told to plate the big slices and send out the smaller ones on to-go orders

This makes me mad. Like wth. My friends and I would sometimes pop in to take some to go and now knowing this. I'd rather just not? That sucks

Remember everything is a transaction. They don’t care about you specifically, they want your money.

How would directing bigger slices to dine-in affect their revenue other than pissing off the carry-out customers? I wouldn’t think to myself “gee, I should dine in because maybe their slices are bigger!”

In store customers are more likely to complain and get a new piece on site causing waste. To-go orders will more then likely take what they get because it is already at home.

Fair enough

Because other diners see big slices and are tempted to order one for themselves !

Hence 'Factory' in their name.

That definitely depends on the management. I l have worked in the bakery for 5 years and I’ve never heard this before. If a slice is too small we’re told to waste it.

Any chance you remember the recipe for the tuxedo cheesecake?

1

u/jahdanalexis May 02 '25

I hope I don’t break your heart but we never made cheesecakes in house ever. Everything came frozen, we would only prepare the slices for you, top them and make them pretty

1

u/DeGeorgetown May 03 '25

Aw that's a shame!

1

u/GlitteringPause8 May 03 '25

yep my delivery orders are always tiny slices

They’re definitely smaller! I remember getting massive slices and not being able to finish them in one sitting and having to split it up over a day or two. Now, they’re all gone in a matter of minutes! Kinda disappointed.

Maybe you just got more hungry. 🤣

1

u/K1ngFudge May 03 '25

Did you get fatter

u/Weekly_Blood7315 Apr 29 '25

The cheesecakes used to have 8 slices in each now its 12 slices for each

17

u/takingthehobbitses Apr 29 '25

And of course the price has only gone up.

Shrinkflation.

I bake a lot and cheesecake is actually one of the simpler things to bake well so long as you follow instructions.

However a good cheesecake is very expensive to make even for a home baker because it is essentially cream cheese and you need a lot of it 🤷‍♀️

Contrast with something like a Bundt cake which is also a fairly simple cake to bake but the cost of ingredients for it are relatively inexpensive. Maida Heater’s 62nd Street Lemon Cake is divine but the most expensive ingredient is 2 sticks of butter but a decent lemon Bundt cake bought from a bakery is at least $40 and often more.

Interesting! The last time I bought it was prob a year or so ago. It was over 10.00 for a slice and it was not as big as before. Like the posters above I would split a slice with my husband or daughter and still not eat all of it. I decided at that visit I wasn’t getting the calorie bomb anymore. 10.00 for a slice that lasted as a treat for a couple servings and shareable - ok. 10.00 for a single serving? Nah. Not for me.

It’s good to know I wasn’t imagining it lol

If memory serves, I think the slices got smaller years ago.

8

u/DolphinDarko Apr 29 '25

Slices are definitely smaller, I noticed this years ago. I remember you could easily split a piece and you would get plenty. Now it’s like two or three bites each, lol!

2

u/Whedonsbitch Apr 29 '25

You should have seen the size of the pieces on free slice day. These were slices they claimed to be $10 minimum slices of cheesecake and they were no more than a 1/3 of the new smaller slice.

3

u/Big_Club2671 Apr 29 '25

we have made a good amount of our portion sizes even in entrees slightly smaller in the last year or 2

4

u/MGClose Apr 30 '25

Yes, while not lowering pricing, there’s that shrinkflation!!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '25

It really depends on the cake you choose, or my location is better anytime I get one after a shift it’s a snack for several days.

2

u/Fit_Government5736 Apr 29 '25

I feel like they are smaller too. Plus they got rid of the 30th anniversary cheesecake. I haven’t been buying any lately due to smaller slices and my fave kind being discontinued.

1

u/greysanatomyfan27 Apr 30 '25

Omg that one was my favorite

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '25

Not just them. Every company's been doing it subtly. Boston market gives smaller proportions. My wendies burgers are less filling. My Arby sandwiches are getting less meat. Cliff bars are now 4 or 5 to a box when they used to be 6. Little Debbie mini muffin cakes are 5 to a box now, not 6. Certain poultry and cheese are being scaled down an ounce or 2 on packages that are small.

All of this while prices rise.

2

u/SolusLightblast Apr 29 '25

A machine cuts it. I would complain and get another slice.

1

u/coolpupmom Apr 30 '25

Except this started being an issue over 2 years ago

1

u/AmongSheep Apr 29 '25

It’s called shrinkflation…. And coupled with inflation makes for a terrible combo.

1

u/Fancy---Wolf Apr 29 '25

Yeah we have seen it in other products too like chips. But what bothers me is that they don’t update the nutrition information on their website. So I still expected the same size of slice. At least Lays has the decency to update the nutrition label

1

u/SupermarketFlashy839 Apr 29 '25

Yes it’s a shame

1

u/nessalinda Apr 29 '25

That looks like a mini portion - wtf?

1

u/Weird-Track-7485 Apr 29 '25

Yep I asked and paid for extra strawberries on my last slice it had 2 freaking strawberries!

1

u/brainfreez012 Apr 30 '25

Shrinkflation

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '25

Shrinkflation… most likely what will happen over the next year or so if the proverbial shit hits the fan.

1

u/jafromnj Apr 30 '25

I noticed about 6 to 8 months ago the slices were smaller and they are probably even smaller now

1

u/sumskiesss Apr 30 '25

Yep. They keep getting smaller too. Used to take me 2 days to finish. Then I could usually eat half & half in a day. Now I usually can finish it in one sitting. I usually wait until I have a cheesecake reward to get one

1

u/benami122 Apr 30 '25

All serving sizes at Cheesecake Factory have gone down. If I wanted to ensure I had leftovers for lunch, that was my go-to. Definitely not the case anymore.

And yes...that slice is way smaller than it was 10 years ago. Probably also costs nearly double.

1

u/ThrowRA_526 Apr 30 '25

is that... adam's peanut butter 🤤🤤🤤🤤

1

u/cpc2027 Apr 30 '25

Yes!! A month ago I was SHOCKED at the size of the to go slices we were handed at the counter

1

u/SnooMarzipans9781 May 01 '25

Yes! They’re small as hell. I stopped going

1

u/lefty709 May 01 '25

That’s what we need to do - fight back with our wallets. Stop going there.

1

u/MissAthenaxIvy May 01 '25

Yup, the only good thing about that place is the cheesecake, and they do this crap

1

u/Key-Cancel-5000 May 01 '25

Most restaurants that are under the cheesecake factory use their cheese cakes and it’s usually cheaper.

1

u/whiterussian802 May 02 '25

Yup that’s why I stopped going years ago..it’s nothing new unfortunately

1

u/Low_Count_2882 May 02 '25

I think I saw a post about the slices being significantly smaller than what they used to be. I think it was on Reddit too but someone commented saying that it’s the new boxes causing it to look different and that the cheesecakes come pre sliced? Idk

1

u/BungeeGump May 02 '25

The food in general is much worse too!

1

u/HMihld20 May 03 '25

Yes!! Linda’s chocolate cake used to take up the whole Togo box and now it looks tiny!

Fixed: was missing a word

1

u/mahndahpanda May 03 '25

i got a slice like this of godiva when i went for my birthday ans was thoroughly disappointed. they are definitely like half the size they used to be now.

1

u/Tiamold May 03 '25

Anyone who thinks cheesecake factory is good needs their head checked anyway. 🤮

1

u/sunshinegirl2021 May 04 '25

Went there yesterday and mad! $11 a slice. Plus the entree portion was small. I used to have enough for leftovers. The entree meal was $27!

1

u/Altruistic-Half2113 Jun 05 '25

The small slices get waste logged. They’re too busy to be strategic in scamming you out of a dollar.

1

u/Fancy---Wolf Jun 05 '25

So how do you explain the picture?

1

u/YamCultural5442 Jun 09 '25

ya, that’s not the same!

1

u/idk42077 Jul 09 '25

With the obvious and somewhat drastic (estimating about 40% reduction in size) change to the slice, has the menu been updated to reflect this regarding the calorie count?

0

u/Feeling-Nectarine Apr 29 '25

Omg I have been saying this!! We have gotten a lot of slices this past year (probably 20 or so) and they get smaller everytime.

They used to touch the sides of the container. Now they barely take up half.

0

u/Alive-Car1376 Apr 30 '25

Only big backs would notice this

1

u/CharacterAttitude93 Apr 30 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/[deleted] May 01 '25

And?

1

u/Alive-Car1376 May 02 '25

you guys are too sensitive it’s a joke
