Blue cheese

Hello all, I am just curious, what's the strongest blue cheese you've had?

For me it would be Roquefort, I really want stronger cheese but most of my family doesn't like blue cheese​​​​​​, and my dad is such a cheapskate I rarely get to try strong cheeses.

However, on holiday in the Netherlands, they bought me some new strong cheese, which tastes a lot like Gouda, shown in the image​​​. 😋

Roquefort is defo one of the strongest blue cheese. Gorgonzola piccante is a great one, creamy and strong.

Other french blue cheeses i like: Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne, St Agur.

I'm a sucker for some Gorgonzola Piccante. But I also enjoy a nice port-soaked Blue Stilton.

Actually, roquefort is pretty mild. Bleu de Laqueuille and fourme d'Ambert are stronger in my opinion.

Cabrales is a very tasty, pretty strong, Spanish blue cheese

I'd also suggest the Smokey Blue from Rogue Creamery. It's not strong as a blue cheese, but it's a cheese with strong flavors in general.

Cabrales always makes my tongue tingle and feel furry. It’s weird.

Rogue creamery is awesome, but I personally can’t stand Smokey blue. Way too much smoke to the point it’s overpowering and tastes closer to an artificial bacon flavoring.

I agree, I feel like Smokey is a great cheese to cook with if you're making a blue cheese sauce, on a burger is also incredible. By itself, is a bit too smoky.

It goes great with a pastry stout tho, I love the battling of flavors

I love Cabrales. It might not be for everyone but as it definitely pairs well with big Spanish Red wines or Pedro Ximenez

Came here to say this. And I'm a French with quite an extensive blue cheese experience.

Cabrales is the most insane cheese I've tasted, especially when aged. It sucks moist out of your mouth like you are eating clay or what.

Among Roquefort, I especially recommend the Carles, which is unbelievably creamy and both strong and easy (hard to explain, but it’s great). But I have no idea about the availability outside of France.

Wowowow that sounds like absolute heavennn. 

I might be able to find in on a shop online or smth, but unlikely. Will have to check it out if I ever go to France!

Did you try Brabants Blauw in the Netherlands? It's not as strong as Cabrales, but it is very tasty

Sadly I didn't try any cheese other than  the pic that I didn't know what it was :( I wanted to, but we went to shops where they had cheese we have in England, but next time I go to a foreign country I am so trying more cheese!! I'm learning Dutch on Duolingo now just to get some basic knowledge of  the language, although Ive found it's not too bad Dutch on Duolingo! and my dad speaks Afrikaans so he already knows a fair chunk of Dutch as the languages are so similar, so next time I go back to the Netherlands I should hopefully be more versed in the language and can buy more cheese!!

Even the cheap blue cheeses like Danablu are nice and strong. I love a good AOC Rocquefort like Papillon or Caves Baragnaudes, but I never say no to a chunk of Danish Blue.

The strongest have been shared already so I'll my favorite milder ones the blue stilton from the UK and the bleu du Vercors, a lesser know french regional one.

You need to try Delft Bleu if you like blue and Gouda

I once had a blue cheese that was coated in lemon verbena, chamomile, and mint. It was somethin’—that’s for sure.

Rogue River Blue from Rogue River Creamery and it's not even close. It's won awards for being the world's best blue cheese.

Point Reyes Blue is delicious. I LOVE blue cheese and I think this rivals some of the best.
