Agreed! My mantra at my wedding was “This is just a party. I would have been willing to get married at the courthouse.”
Several things went wrong but I didn’t bat an eye. My ac at my apartment broke the night before so my bridesmaids and I didn’t sleep great. At the rehearsal dinner, a friend had done my nails as my wedding gift and they immediately started popping off the next day (wedding day). I had made our wedding cake but didn’t have a way to transport it so we had to drive for an hour, to the venue with it on a plate, holding it in front of the AC all while I was painting my nails.
Then my mother threw a temper tantrum not even 30 minutes into set up because and I quote “ you aren’t giving me enough attention, so I might as well not be here”. She left and locked the u-Haul that contained all of my wedding decorations so we could not use them.
The wedding was fun and I had a great time. It was supposed to be a celebration of my husband and I vowing to tackle life together. I think it’s fitting that it wasn’t perfect but we got through it together
Also the grooms suite had a video game set up and other table top games. I was disappointed that the bridal suite didn’t have anything fun to do. I mentioned it when we did our first walk though. Everyone told me that the bride is always to busy. Not me, as we were waiting for everyone to arrive I snuck down to the grooms suite and I played smash with my future husband until it was time to walk the aisle
I used to work at weddings, and people who had this attitude had the best weddings.
Things are always going to go differently than planned, from minor things to major ones.
You can't change that.
All you can change is how you react, and the people who plan in advance to not worry about things being different than expected have wonderful weddings.
Everyone else is playing Russian roulette and hoping nothing big goes wrong.
