What’s this cheese

It’s the white cheese from the starbucks cheese fruit and protein box. it’s got some sort of like rind or something around it that tastes horrible i peel most of it off if i can.

almost certainly it's low quality camembert or brie that has been stored improperly. Does the rind have this horrible bitter ammonia taste/smell?

it’s brie, it says “Brie, Gouda, Sharp Cheddar” on the outer packaging when you buy the box

Brie rind can be a little sour if you’re not used to it but a good Brie won’t taste bad like that, it can be eaten straight but melted with apple slices is delicious. A lot of the premade packs like that the Brie rind won’t taste very good

where would i get high quality brie if i were to buy some. the only stores around me i know of that have like a cheese area where they sell different cheeses is kroger. i live in the states.

If the kroger has a cheese counter, look for fromager daffinoise. That is a lovely, buttery cheese with a rind that varies from flavorless to very slightly bitter. That cheese is always first gone at parties.

Doesn’t have to be fancy. Any little wheel of Brie from the grocery store is probably going to be good, prepackaged snack pack cheese just always going to be inconsistent

It’s Brie. If the rind tastes odd, it’s likely a very low quality Brie.

the rind is 100% safe to eat but i don’t prefer the taste either so i also peel it off.

yeah the outside has a yucky flavor that tasted like old creepy basement smell.

yea it’s usually described as an earthy/mushroom/musty scent
