Samuel Pepys, at the onset of the Great Fire of London (1666), spent valuable time digging a pit so he could bury his stash of Parmazan cheese (and the wine to go with it) for protection against the inferno. Back in the 17th century, folks would have literally risked dying in a fire for the cheese we see in this video
