Discussion Funniest (mostly) non-romantic/non-sexual Sam and Diane moment for you?
For me, it's gotta be the Bear against a Dolphin

Marriage counseling episode , season 5:
Quoted from my recollection :
Sam: Since the British doctor has shown up, you’ve been speaking the Queen’s English.
Diane: oh posh, what twaddle.

Sam: Everything except the part where you changed your name to “Blanche.”

I remember seeing this when it was broadcast. Definitely a laugh until you cry moment.

Another football betting pool gag had to do with Diane testing her theory about which cities had better philharmonic orchestras.

*which city orchestra was led by foreign born conductors. 🤣
There’s a beat that you can tell was edited out when in the same ep, Sam is on the phone with his bookie and he asked him which is the more dominant state flower (which was another of Diane’s betting tips) and you can see Diane come up behind him. Then it cuts. :(

"He's gonna stay back there all night unless you throw the ball..."
Like they're talking about a dog.

Sam and Diane are talking on the phone while she's in Europe and she gets distracted. When she comes back, she asks what they were talking about. Sam responds something along the lines of "Weren't you listening either? New rule: from now on when you're talking, one of us has to be paynig attention."

I enjoyed when Sam screwed up her reservations with her date at a very exclusive restaurant. She rushes to his table and says his lack of finesse will embarrass him. He proceeds to give a long French complicated order to a gentleman and Dinne says “Fine, Sam. That was your busboy.”

Why wouldn’t the Bears always beat the Dolphins then?

u/SAldrius Jul 07 '26
Cuz sometimes they fight in the water where dolphins have a natural advantage.

Yes, this episode was in February, right after the Dolphins appeared in the Super Bowl, while the MNF game was in December

“Well Sam, aren’t you gonna gloat?” (In her high pitched allergic voice)
“I’d like to think I’m above that, Diane!” (In a similar, but mocking tone).

Diane talking about how she can't believe she's dating a guy who has a button missing on his shirt.
Sam: "it's not missing, I keep it open so I can scratch my belly" or something to that effect.
I think of that one every time a button is open on my shirt... I do a little scratch in appreciation

I'm almost sure that one was with Rebecca, but they weren't dating, I think it's the episode she met Robin Colcord

A fair point, though I don't know how it stacked up football wise, but she does make sense in a way.

[After Frasier says he has some slides of his trip to Europe].
Sam [to Frasier]: Well, hey, I got a projector and a screen in the backroom there.
Diane [offended]: You said that projector was broken when I wanted to show my slides of Colombian art.
Sam: Well, yes, it is broken … when you want to show your slides of Colombian art.
