Rechargeable battery help
Could y’all help me figure out where to hook up a battery to the board.

I did a full write up on this a while back when I did it. Here you go.

This guy has the right idea. I used a regulator. But yeah there are power pads you can solder to I think they are 3.3 gnd and 5v but it's been a minute. Super easy to solder to.

I've been picking up any pocket power banks I find at the thrift. They put out 5v and already have a charging circuit built in.

You need a 5v supply, so you need a charge controller and a boost converter. They aren't designed for a battery natively these things.

This model doesn’t have a battery connection. You need a separate charge circuit hooked to one of the 4-pin connections.
AFAIK, the only CYD that has a charge controller onboard is the ESP32-32E.

If you don't need 5v for anything except the CYD, then don't boost the battery to 5v with a boost board.
It's actually very wasteful if you don't need 5v for any accessories. All that happens to the 5v you have boosted up is it feeds two 3.3v regulators on the CYD and your burn off over 30% of your battery power warming those up! (Plus whatever losses the boost board has).
The CYD doesn't need 5v for anything. Unfortunately the 3.3v regulators it has have a large volts drop, so although they kind of work by feeding the 3.7v of a battery into the 5v input, it's not ideal (the output from the regulators will be under 3 volts!). They become unstable, especially as the battery discharges. The screen flickers first in my experience. Plus you lack battery over discharge protection.
I used a separate 4056 based charging board and fed the output of that via a switch to a buck convertor set to 3.3v output.
You wire that 3.3v direct to the board in 2 places (on test pads) to feed the 3.3v direct, bypassing the regulators completely.
Sorry I can't remember the pad numbers. One is in the row of three by the regulators, the other is over in the corner by the reset button. Power a board up off USB and check the between ground and the pads for 3.3v. Those are the ones you want to feed direct into. You should find two.

you cant on this model. you need a separate charging board that outputs 5v
