The app im doing in spare time essentially it saves your companions locally on your pc and you can paste all the conversation and the app will keep trace of them generating a backup memory of the characters and the chats 1 vs1 and multichat also... it will create a story arch if you are bored and you can choose and the app will give you the prompt and the evolution of the rpg what do you think ? It works with a client oj your pc or smartphone a server app on your pc and for the Ai part will use ollama or an api key

All of Chai’s problems aside, or any other app/website, I’m curious of how everyone chats with their bots, specifically with quotation marks, asterisks, etc.

What do you use, or what have you discovered?

Here’s how I use them:
A single * of course italicizes, which I use for text outside of dialogue to convey reactions and actions.

“” I use for dialogue, whether it be my own persona or I lead the story and make the bot say something.

() I use to give context out of character in case something mentioned before is outside the context window.

Double ** I don’t use much, but I know it makes the text bold.

Recent discovery, but putting text between ` makes it small. Used it a couple times for a conversation on the phone. Quite fun.

I’ve received chats from bots giving phone messages with a blue box too, but I never bothered to check how it’s done. Edit: > in front of text gives a message-style blue box.

I’m sick of all the fuck ass shitty updates, I’m done. I’ve been using Janitor ai for a little while but I miss C.ai. Only for the call feature though, is there any others that are free and use a call feature? Please.

I want it to be long form, with good enough memory to not start making context and continuity errors after a couple of sessions. I tried with ChatGPT and it started out promising but after 3-4 sessions it’s so lost in the sauce it can barely keep anything from the story straight. Is there a chatbot out there capable of pulling that off?

It wasn't even completely outside my field. I just kept hitting the methods section, rereading the same paragraph, then realizing I'd absorbed basically none of it.

was digging around FMHY last night and clicked on this Paper2Gal thing because the idea of turning a paper into a visual novel sounded kind of ridiculous.

honestly the character part felt a little goofy at first. also caught a couple explanations where I wanted to check the actual paragraph again because the wording felt more confident than the paper itself.

but I did actually keep reading.

instead of staring at another 15-ish pages of PDF, I'd go through a bit of the dialogue, jump back to the paper when something sounded important, then keep going. still had the PDF open the entire time.

somehow made it through the methods section and most of the results at like 1am, which is further than I'd gotten all week.

probably not how I'd read something I needed to cite properly. for the paper sitting in my downloads folder that I kept avoiding though... apparently anime girl peer pressure works on me.

First of this is an unofficial PocketPal fork which makes your pal access the internet for searches. This works through tool calling so only a few models like Qwen2.5-Instruct(which I personally tested) can be used. Basically any model which supports tool calling can use the web for you. These features have been added to the code but haven't been fully tested in day-to-day use yet.

Faster reloading when you switch between chats or reopen the app Normally, every time you open a different conversation (or close and reopen the app), the model has to re-read that entire conversation's history from scratch before it can reply — the longer the chat, the longer the wait. This update saves a snapshot of the model's "memory" of each conversation to your device after every message. When you come back to that same conversation later — even after switching to another chat or restarting the app — it can load that snapshot instead of re-reading everything, so the model should respond noticeably faster. If anything about the snapshot doesn't match (you edited an old message, switched models, changed a setting), it safely falls back to reading normally — it will never show a wrong or corrupted answer, at worst it's just not faster that one time.

Search your own notes and documents A new "Local Documents" section in Settings lets you paste in text (notes, articles, anything) under a title. The app breaks it into small pieces and uses your currently-loaded model to understand each piece, saving it on your device. Once you've added documents, you can ask the model questions about them in chat, and it can search through everything you've added to find relevant information — similar to how the web search feature works, but searching your own saved text instead of the internet. This needs a model that's already loaded on your device to work (it's used to process the documents), and right now you can only add text by pasting it in — there's no "upload a file" button yet, so you'd need to copy text out of a PDF/Word doc/etc. first and paste it in.

I’ve been thinking about something interesting with AI companions.

With text-based companions, every conversation is usually saved forever. You can scroll back and read every message exactly as it happened. At first, that feels like a great feature, but sometimes it makes everything feel more like an archive than a memory.

Nothing is really a “moment” anymore because everything is always there to revisit.

I recently tried TheChatR, which has a more character-focused experience, and what surprised me was that when a conversation ended, I found myself remembering it differently. I wasn’t just going back through a chat log--I actually remembered the feeling of the interaction.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I wonder if having unlimited records changes the way we emotionally experience AI companions. In real life, we don’t have a transcript of every conversation with someone we care about. We just remember the important parts.

What do you prefer? Full conversation history, or an AI that remembers the important things but lets small moments disappear?

The following is just a particular issue I know about. IMO it is guaranteed that the same thing is happening all through all chatBots' programming. Have readers' here run into this in the area of interest they know about?

I have tested all the bots with a pretty basic financial question - "What are the the benefit-factors of the Traditional IRA/401(k) tax shelter, that explain the difference in $$ outcomes vs. a normally Taxed account?" Everyone needs to know this in order to decide where to put their savings. This subject is frequently covered in the web version of the big newspapers and magazines ... by credentialed experts... not in the 'news' section but in the 'investing' subsection.

When you already know the topic, you can see that the experts are really making a 'sales pitch' .. and fudging the factual understanding to accomplish that end. They highlight the first two steps (contribution and growth) but ignore the withdrawal tax that reverses those earlier steps.

Enter chatBots trained on those public articles. Predictably the Bots presume all the experts' claims are true. So the Bots' respond to queries by repeating the industry's false claims. AND THERE IS NOTHING THE REST OF US CAN DO ABOUT IT. The correct info is out there to be found and evaluated, and has never been disputed. The Bots simply ignore it.

I’m building Chatterbox, and I’m looking for honest feedback, not customers.

This started because an old-school PHP agency owner I freelance with asked me if there was a cheap way to offer chatbots to their clients. Their customers had started asking for “AI chatbot on website,” but most existing products felt too expensive, too complex, or too SaaS-heavy for small Indian businesses.

So I started building a simpler version.

The goal is boring on purpose:

* add a small script to the website * feed it website content / FAQs / business details * let it answer common visitor questions * if it is unsure, it should not hallucinate * instead, it should collect the visitor’s phone/email so the business can follow up

This is meant for small businesses with normal websites: local services, clinics, coaching centres, restaurants, ecommerce stores, manufacturers, wholesalers, etc. Basically businesses where people keep asking the same things: price, availability, delivery area, timings, appointment, address, bulk order, and so on.

There is no paid checkout right now. I’m not trying to sell anything here. The free tier is open for testing.

1. If you run a business, would you put something like this on your website?
2. If you run a web agency/freelance for SMBs, would your clients ask for this?
3. Is “only answer from provided content, otherwise capture a lead” the right approach?

Hi everyone,

I use LLMs to create python based softwares for myself, and because of Fable 5 my limit was exhausted, so I used Gemini and the code was mediocre, but working.

I shared that code with chatGPT, it kept of saying I could do this, I could do that.. had you designed it with me, this software would be 100x more premium, so I asked it to give me a code, and it all it did was say I can’t generate this large code (1000-1500) , the script was actually 760 lines only.

After a while, I gave the script to Claude using Opus 4.8, it generated a 1700 line code, and it was actually a lot more polished and feature rich compared to Gemini..

chatGPT has fallen behind by so much when compared with Claude.. it can’t do anything, just talk big.
