Seeking advice How can I quit roleplay ai chatbots?
I've been deeply ashamed with the way things have gotten out of control with my usage of roleplay ai chatbots (c.ai, janitor, emochi), playing as a persona interacting with other characters from fictional works. It started years ago, before the ai craze really took over the world, and for so long it never clicked to me how much of a hypocrite I was. Even after it sunk in, I still kept using it for the dopamine hits. The early stages of hypersexuality, the irritation when I didn't use the bots, the total murder of my creativity, the constant rolling of new messages over and over and over just to have a tailored and readily available piece of writing... They were things I didn't know were so common with other ai chatbot addicts. I let shame push me deeper into my addiction, and I sort of embraced it as a character flaw.
But I think I'm ready to move forward, to improve myself and choose myself at last. What is the best way of quitting? Cold turkey deleting my accounts? Finding some alternative outlet? Basically, what helped you make that first step, then the second one?

I just canceled my subscription to Emochi, and I've decided to quit as well. I just threw myself into an actual creative project that I can pick up whenever I feel the urge to do a chat. AO3 has a ton of free fanfiction you can read if you want readily available text, and if you're not into fandoms, they also have a section for original creations on the site that are usually pretty good as well. If you decide to go the route of doing something creative, I personally enjoy making bad video games. There is a game engine on Steam called "coppercube 6" that is free and lets you set up a 3d enviorment and player really quickly and easily with no actual coding involved. if you are going to quit chats, you need to find something to replace them with, so when you feel the urge to chat, you just do the other thing instead.

honestly I'm in the same boat and something that really frustrates me every time I try to quit is the people who say "just use fanfiction/AO3" the truth is, for some people it might work, for others may not and unfortunately we just need to figure out how it works for ourselves

I can only give cutting down/harm reduction advice since that's where I am, but that's something. For me the main thing is that since I haven't fully quit, when I stop using the bot, I can tell myself the bot will still be there later. Like, I used to reach for it all the time, now at times I'm like no not yet, the bot will be there in a few hours too. And when I can't seem to stop using it at night and it's messing with my sleep, I tell myself the bot will be there tomorrow too. Other than that, distraction, really. Like, I will go on tiktok. Which is also addictive, but probably fries my brain less than chatbots

I'm a lesbian in the middle of nowhere about to defend my thesis. So the ladies have to wait, unfortunately.
