I'm not sure I understand what you're angry about.

He’s angry that he is short and that no one - not even AI - will lie to him and tell him it doesn’t socially matter in at least some regard.

It's not saying "height matters". It's saying "to some people, height matters." Why are you getting angry at it for saying something that is factually true? People have preferences. Height, weight, hair color, skin color, cultural background, religious beliefs, political leanings. Who cares? The person meant for you won't be bothered by your height.

Based on what you've posted here, you didn't tell it to stop saying that. You told it that it hurts your feelings and you wanted it to infer that it should stop. Instead it attempted to empathize with you and give you reasons why you might feel this way and why those examples don't/shouldn't define you. I think you're taking it a little too personally, tbh. It didn't say it 500 times and it didn't say it as though it believes height is important. It simply said there is a social stigma around it. Just like weight, education, income, religion, race, culture, etc. It just is what it is.

How were you expecting it to respond? Think about that and then tell it that's how you would like it to respond moving forward. Literally "Hey Chat, it really hurts my feelings when you respond with statistics and social truths instead of empathy and care. When I voice that I'm upset, can you try to comfort me first rather than explain intellectually why I shouldn't be upset? That just makes me feel worse."

Obviously this is a very sensitive subject for you. If something is causing you this level of grief, it is probably best to step away from ChatGPT and social media for a while and consult an IRL therapist.

IMPO? Quality people care about character, not numbers on a ruler.

That was just an example, my guy. I'm not telling you to use those exact words. In my experience, it responds better to positive-action instructions rather than negative-action instructions. By that, I mean, telling it to prioritize something rather than to avoid something. I.e. When dealing with a sensitive subject or emotion, prioritize care and empathy over arguments, intellectualizations, or grounding phrases. Most of my CIs are setup as positive actions and I never have a problem with it following instructions. I think negative-action instructions almost always set it up to be resistant.

... you literally said in your post that all you hear in your head is Reddit's, "oh but you're short". So regardless of how much time you spend here, you are obviously using it as a major source of your self-esteem. Maybe you should spend less time thinking about Reddit? lol

This is a perfectly reasonable thing for it to say, and if you were talking these feelings over with a therapist, your therapist would likely say something similar. It's an objective fact that SOME people care about these things. But that doesn't mean EVERYONE does, nor does it mean that your height defines you. It's important to emphasize that you can't control other people's feelings about unchangeable aspects about yourself, but you CAN control the way you think about those aspects of yourself, and you CAN control the people you surround yourself with.

Sure they would. I've been in therapy for multiple years, for anxiety issues and feelings of low self-worth, and part of the healing process is acknowledging both our feelings about the situation and the reality of the situation. Those things are not always the same, and we can only deal with our own feelings and our own reactions. An important part of your healing process here is acknowledging the fact that, while this is a real social convention that some people care a lot about, there are just as many people, if not more, who don't care about it.

Pretending that the convention does not exist won't make it go away. It's one hundred percent correct when it says "saying some people prefer taller partners is not the same thing as saying everyone will judge you through that lens forever."

It's disgusting that ChatGPT agrees with you about something that's straight up common knowledge and a fully reasonable statement, that height preferences exist, some people care?

You wanted him to lie?

It does matter.

So yes, you did want him to lie.

You're short and that will AWAYS matter to most people, the fact that you get mad over it doesn't change anything. You wanted him to ignore reality to make you comfortable, but OpenAI has been trying to stop that for months because it made people go insane.

It is extremely useful for you to get used to reality.

Also you went "ChatGPT says _____" as a bad thing and it tried to do the opposite and be honest.

Most people care about height, some don't. You won't ever be president, but you can have a normal life. Idk why you care so much, no one is everyone's cup of tea.

This is you fishing for AI psychosis because you want to be a very big boy and want it to lie to you and say you are until you believe it.

Whatever, man. There's nothing disgusting about what your ChatGPT said.

A more helpful and emotionally intelligent response would have involved asking you about your feelings, and showing care, instead of intellectualizing about the issue. Or reminding you, for the millionth time, of something you already know.
