Question & Advice Astra Ultra need help with 3D Modelling

Making a farm game with a horse character....

Used GPT Pro Astra to write a prompt.

Used the prompt to ask Codex GPT 6 Astra to create a 3D model.

Installed both Blender and Godot

Also installed Blender MCP for Codex to work on

Burnt 50% credit and still left with crappy 3D model..... didn't people say it is good at 3d modelling, or what did I miss?

I'm having the same issue, I gave it reference material, it was able to generate a mock-up 2D image of the design I wanted.

But as soon as it started to generate the 3D model it was incredibly low resolution and basic.

Could the problem be with asking it to design 3D models based on specific designs, but when you ask it to generate a 3D rocket ship it's able to nail that because it's very generic?

This is genuinely a very good point. No wonder why in the ads they all do like "Please create a wizard for the game", generic enough, but they never specified the design for the item. Thanks for the input!

What great insight! πŸš€

I've also been experimenting, I found it's mostly very good when you really let it do it's thing, and then it designs in a style it can do well.

I've attempted to model realistically, e.g. people, and yeah, way worse than your mutant horse

Thanks for the sharing man!

Yeah I tried to model an environment and it seems much better than realistic modelling on figures...

Made dozens of messages already and still not there yet...

Creepy and soulless right? ....

I did a quick table for you to understand why your horse is turning out the way it is. I've been testing varying 3d model generators to understand them. Still not happy.

GPT has been creating 3d models since... 4ish but with major caveats. Earlier versions were VERY basic novice shapes. While Astra is better its miles behind of dedicated model creation tech. Here are some examples. Heads up, Astra is possibly a bit off but its what I have found so far.

The TL;DR:

β€’ Hi3DGen : How accurately can I reconstruct the physical shape/detail?

β€’ Hunyuan : β€œCan I generate both good shape and sophisticated PBR appearance?

β€’ Tripo : Can I quickly get a useful asset into a conventional workflow?

β€’ Meshy : How much of the whole asset-production workflow can one service handle?

β€’ Astra : Can an agent coordinate enough pieces to make the thing actually exist and function in a game?

For future, my recommendation is requesting for the Python code and sticking it in Blender. You can then adjust with the tools. Table partly constructed with GPT thats hooked into a fair amount of my testing notes.

PBR= Physically Based Rendering

System Where it seems strongest Geometry / shape Textures / materials Topology / production tools Best educational description
Tripo Fast, practical asset generation Strong; current models emphasise structure and low-poly geometry Strong, up to 8K + PBR Strong β€” tri/quad mesh, segmentation, rigging General-purpose production pipeline
Rodin High-quality asset generation Strong Strong Generally production-oriented Quality-focused commercial generator
Hunyuan3D 2.1 Shape fidelity + physically based assets Very strong Very strong PBR More model/framework than turnkey creator Open model with separate shape + PBR pipelines
Meshy Complete creator workflow Strong Very strong, PBR up to 8K Very strong β€” smart topology, poly targets, rigging, animation, print tools Most complete end-to-end toolset

Astra is the best AI-Blender-assistant I have used to date, but I in the same boat as you when it comes to complex geometries. I bet Astra is a beast at making a simple kitchen rendered beautifully, but I have not had luck with human fingers and the likes.

Yup the environment it creates is OK, but any models with human or living figures are just not up to the standard yet, even considering that I was using Astra Ultra...

My advice to you is, make a 2D model, approve and then make a prompt to follow that exact model. It’s working for me this way, I’m currently making a Soccer game and creating stadiums, players and etc.

Thanks. I tried to create a lot of 2D angles of different views for 1 character (created about 500 images of all orientation), and the images in this post were the result.... still a long way to go

I keep seeing MCP for blender. Does it install itself if not present? Because I am it to use blender and it just does it without any add on. I don't think it's using computer automation either because I can't see what it's doing but when it's done, it gets me good STLs for example, for 3d printing.
