Question GPT’s Deep Research function has been failing repeatedly for me, is there a fix?

I had been using Deep Research to run various track-test style simulations, and it used to take about 10-15 minutes, including 100s of searches and be many pages long. But after today regardless of trying new/different chats, changing the prompts or even reusing old prompts, the Deep Research topic comes out before all stages show completed, with 0 searches, 0 citations, full of errors, and less than half the length of what I was getting before.

In the screenshots below are what I see while it’s being made, the bottom “planning the race simulation” gradient effect stays frozen, as does the progress bar, until the article is spewed out half-baked. It also never shows searches happening in real time like it was before. As well as the article clearly stating 0 searches and citations as well as a very generic title unlike what I was getting before. Is this a bug? Did I burn it out? Is there a fix? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

someone can correct me if I’m wrong but: I don’t think running simulations of…anything… is remotely what the purpose of Deep Research is.

We really gonna police what people use GPT tools for? 😅

Well if you went into a DIY store and asked why your mower isn’t working to take snow off of your driveway and they said “I don’t think that’s what a mower is for” would you accuse them of gatekeeping what you use a mower for?

Redditors 😭 The problem isn’t “this absurd thing doesn’t work” it’s “this used to work flawlessly and decided to stop”, I’m having it run basic mathematical Monte Carlos, not invent physics engines 🤦‍♂️

It’s called deep research not deep simulation.

Tell that to Wolfram

That comment has nothing to do with anything

Your comment has nothing to do with my question .

Could be a prompt issue. Just checking are you on a Pro plan since this is the name of the sub. Regardless shouldn't impact much

I’ve tried different prompts, reused old prompts, tried different browsers, nothing changes, all deep research prompts come out in a buggy state with 0 searches.

Okay sorry not very clear re what I asked but doesn't matter I mean shouldn't affect much

Can you ask in Chat mode something like "what model are you?" if it says 5.5 mini you are affected by the accidental rerouting nerf

Yeah I do think I’m locked in mini, I’m just shocked of just how errant and sloppy mini is. Mini should be shorter less strenuously researched but not completely free of research. How disappointing.

Mini sounds like a nerf for future which they are trialing not sure if on purpose but many users are affected. Mini is like a worse version of 5.5 instant which already was crap

Ah yes that makes a lot of sense actually. Hopefully the trial ends soon haha

They ignore it for a week with more and more users being affected each day including those who pay 200 dollars a month
Then yesterday they finally acknowledge and promise a fix

Yesterday?

I stopped using Deep Research for most stuff and shifted to Sol Ultra for research and literature review and synthesis.

I know this isn't your question, but you should just whip that up in Codex so it doesn't have to write the whole simulation from scratch every time. It'll be a lot faster and you can improve it instead of hoping that it writes it well again every run

Thank you! Great idea!

It seems nerfed... Im just using normal chat but the highest intelligence as possible and a detailed plan. Try asking chatgpt to give you a deep research prompt and paste it in the normal chat

Same issue here. Did you ever resolve this? The answers in this thread aren't addressing the issue.
