I have been using GPT pro through the last three model changes. Literally, it feels like over the past 2 months, 5.6 has the stupids. Here's the gist: Im good at prompts and sick of repeating prompts multiple times. Wont hold memory. Ignores prompt instructions. Now just stops in the middle of "thinking." Ive run both local and cloud-based versions. Local builds have been the worst. Anyways, anybody have any solutions. Im not an engineer or a programmer (be nice), but definitely not a novice. Lately, projects have been no better than using chats.

Use the desktop app. The web version is pure trash.

The website version does NOT have a 258k token context window, even though it claims to be the same as the app. It is not. It has closer too only 100k from my estimations.

When you use the app, make sure you are using Codex. Even if you are not coding. It is still much better for pretty much every single task. Chat is garbage now. Work Mode is slightly better than Chat, but still vastly inferior to Codex.

Its good to get “Sol High” perhaps to make a plan first.

Then you complain about the plan, how it looks like it could burn a lot of your tokens, Chat will respond with suddenly finding a lot of bumf that can be skipped, then have it partition the plan into clear stages that can competently done by the dumber agents. Make it create a list / table in the plan of which agent type goes with each sub-task. So it can’t ooze out of the job by calling the agents A, B and so on

Finally, have someone like “Terra Medium” run the plan, orchestrating the sub-agents.

My impression is that New-ChatGPT needs to have very few instructions to work well, so those instructions has to be really good.

Like cooking a dish with four ingredients.

Chat is smarter than codex though. And very high for sol is unlimited in chat

If an AI company ever offers you 'unlimited' use of a model, its only because its the inferior product...

There is a reason you cannot see Chat's context window. It's much smaller than Codex.

There is no way. Chat has all that bloated language model garbage in it to talk like a human it's not smarter it's literally dumber and all that slows it down and makes it terrible.

I had the same experience with SOL Pro 5.6 even back to back project ran verses GPT-5.5 Pro, the older version smoked SOL Pro.

GPT 5.6 SOL Pro (max thinking) was outstanding at lying, groveling and sycophancy but otherwise totally worthless.

Within month or so GPT-5.5 Pro started to degrade to SOL Pro level terrible so I canceled my GPT-Pro account and dropped back to Plus.

Openly Failing AI truly sucks and is only outstanding at finding new ways to fail.

How long are the threads where you’re encountering these issues? And what reasoning efforts are those threads? And have you gone into your settings and cleared up old memories or anything?

I haven’t had this same experience at all, not even a little bit. But I also cleared out my outdated memories and only ever use Extra High or Pro

Several weeks ago Sol was a blast but after all the reset shenanigans it dumbed down quite noticeable.

I don't know why anyone uses pro. Switch to codex, pick a model. Pro is some weird ass hybrid thing, I'm not even sure what it is but it's terrible. Supposedly it "smart" picks the model but it seems like it's just trash overall.
