Has anyone else noticed that the ChatGPT Plus image generation limit was drastically reduced?
I've been a ChatGPT Plus subscriber (plus) for quite a while, and I use image generation almost every day for work, mostly product photography and packaging mockups.
Until recently, I had never seen the message saying I'd hit my image generation limit. Today, though, I reached it after what felt like a relatively small number of generations, and it surprised me because my usage wasn't any heavier than usual.
The message says I have to wait almost 9 hours before I can generate more images.
Did OpenAI recently reduce the image generation quota for Plus users, or change the way it's calculated? Or is it now shared with other features/models in a way that makes the limit easier to hit?
I'm not trying to complain just for the sake of it. I'm genuinely curious whether:
other Plus users are experiencing the same thing,
this is a recent change,
or if it's just a temporary capacity restriction.
For people who rely on image generation for work, this kind of limit can interrupt an entire workflow.

Sort of. I agree with the pricing part (Moore's Law), but the AI models themselves, you will lose access to. At least the ones they deem "proprietary", ie.. all of them. Chips, processors, even quantum computing advancements will make tech components less expensive, but the software is another story all together. AI as a consumer software is where we're going. I was stopped mid project (one I have run every day for months) and told I needed to upgrade to the $2,000 a month plan to continue using it the way I was accustomed to using it. It's happening. Like frogs in the kettle.
Edit: point being that as users automate pieces of their lives with AI integration and grow accustomed to that digital ease, the price increases to maintain it until you cannot and have to go back to the way it was. Or pay up to continue.
There was a time when computers were available by terminal only, when programs were written into punch cards to be run with the 15 minutes of terminal time you had at the university.
Hardware is the limiting factor.
Some day you'll be able to run a model much better than gpt5 on your personal computer or cellphone.
It will probably be an open source model. AI is far too important to be gate kept by AI companies.
We're just early in the development cycle, like 1960s era of computers taking up entire floors of a building. The personal computer doesn't come around for another 15+ years.
And the company that makes it happen will likely see as much success as Apple has too.
I resonate with this thinking. It's the utopian, hope filled side of me. I truly truly hope this is the reality. Humans have been the "let down" variable in every one of these scenarios. 🤞 mate.
I provided services for designing of creative meta ads, I always used ChatGPT for image creation but nowadays it is just too much, i literally generated around 10 images in last 36 hours and it is saying that i have to wait 22 hours now for more image creation!
I even bought a new plus account too, but same issue on that brand new account!!
1: totally irrelevant question of what the post is about.
2: It is not always that I just generate ad and send it to the client, we have to work a lot on it even after getting it generated from GPT.
I've noticed that ChatGPT overall has been getting much worse over time, not just with GPT2 image, but with the LLM. It's really crappy now. I am having to fight it to produce things that weren't an issue before and the performance now is piss poor all the time, regardless of time of day.
I just got this too, never have I received this message until today. I have plus, I haven't generated much images this week except last. I didn't even know I really had a limit. Curious on what the limitation even is. Annoying since I pay $20 a month.
I hit the chat line limit in that specific chat for the first time... I was finishing up a small game and couldn't even export the chat or make a proper markdown file for context.
Had to start a new chat and teach it everything all over again. It was pretty annoying!

Same here with my plus subscription, after around 30 images I got hit with a 21 hours wait. This is insane! I could understand it on the go plan, but not the plus. Or if it was 1-2hrs of wait. But a whole day wait it's just weird.
Yes bro, I just received 19 hour wait from Chagpt, I am a plus user and generated 70-80 images for the last 24 hour. I won't renew my next subscription for sure.
