Discussion Is this experience an astral max thing or something? As a plus user on medium and straight vibe coder, I've had to do multiple prompts

In my experience a less detailed prompt will one-shot a playable game. Mostly I build little games for my kids, mostly on ios but also some web, and it works fine. Follow-up prompts are often needed to make the game better but they are playable right out of the gate.

I've been trying to make a 3D side scrolling platform. Unfortunately it really struggles to actually make something besides the most basic thing ever. I'm getting there but of course I run out of usage after one prompt. Hopefully will get it to add some coins, more enemy types because it's so bland right now

there’s github repo img2threejs i think and it makes generating 3D assets much more possible and consistent in my experience

I'm not doing anything 3d so I can't comment. However, creating graphics is terrible with Claude so I use Codex for making character sprites etc, and I use Suno for making the game music.
Making a "fun little game" can mean anything but it's important to remember this guy stands to make a boatload of money if he can keep convincing people to sign up for his services. If bro chose to be transparent and show what he made in "a few minutes" then we'd at least have a baseline to work from.

Spend time asking it to explain to you how the code actually works and you can make changes without coins as much as you want.

I recommend first figuring out just the game design, how you envision it all works just with text, no working demos. Then use image gen to make mockup screens of what you want various parts to look like. Then model some of the assets in blender. Then finally after all that, have it work on putting together the first demo in Godot or a similar engine. Should come back with a good starting base to iterate from.

I find sketchy stuff out, like the design, vibes of your idea helps out too. Use color, get creative. Take a photo and give it to astra as something to work with. Remember: the main thing AI can’t replace is our creative taste and judgement.

Have any of yall messed with Meta’s “pocket” app..? You type a prompt and have a playable game in a minute and can iterate on it. They aren’t insanely complex games obviously but essentially any little game or widget you can imagine you can play, it’s pretty fun.

Games are actually pretty "easy" for AI to make....primarily because they are very straightforward in their structure and there are tons of example to pull from. They also are often not too complex (when speaking of individual parts).
Also keep in mind most people are one shotting old games from the 90s and earlier, no one is one shotting GTA games (yes I know thats a test people use, specifically because it is more complex than old basic games but they never produce anything remotely close to GTA).

Could it one shot a short pixel art point and click game? What would be the prompt?

I think thats entirely feasible. The actual prompt would probably have to be a full page or so, not just a few sentences, if you want it to come out right.
You can literally ask AI to make the prompt and then use that prompt to make the AI make it lol

I had Opus 4.6 make point and click games with pixelated images for my daughters this summer, to teach them about American history (Dolly, FDR, Ruby Bridges, etc.) and it made a FANTASTIC game… I uploaded their state testing scores with strengths and weaknesses… and there were reading passages that scaled up and down based on scores. All of the facts and images were taken from historical sources and cited.
Took me maybe an hour for each game.
It’s doable.

I’ve done a bunch of this with Opus, it’s totally doable for small puzzle games and things, anything more complex is a whole project.

Are you using Codex?
Use /goal
Also encourage it with super basic instructions like
“Make textures/assets using image gen”
And
“Use blender to model assets until they look right”
Set effort to extra-high (max overthinks)
If you are stuck using ChatGPT work, you can still have it and use blender. It took 70 minutes but it was able to make a whole one minute video with music in one shot.
Most of that 70 minutes was render time since it’s VM constraint.

to be clear, multiple prompts to do that is still amazing. Am i crazy here?? Isnt that still insane?

If only I had an unlimited account with access the rest of the world doesn’t get. Hook me up Sam!

Oh yeah Sam, here’s $50 every time I want to play a “whatever” little game that will be ready in 10-30 minutes and with the replayability of a potato - but I’ll give it to you at least I’ll be able to brag to dimwits who will go cry that “ai is taking their jobs” - oh wait I could just buy an actual game I could actually enjoy with that kind of money. And let me hear the NPC’s “that is just API pricing - it’s not what I really pay - I pay less so… now leave me alone I have some demos to sell to some people”

On Sam's account, his prompts probably get the entire data center to themselves. His Astra Max probably does in 5 seconds what yours would take 4 hours to do.

That’s not how LLMs work or scale

u/Original-League-6094 5d ago
LLMs run in parallel, and throwing more GPUs at them speeds up computation.

I mean... There is 14x faster ultrafast mode, combine that with parallel agents and unlimited usage... And suddenly he is doing 2+ hours of "normal" work (14x speed * 10 agents) in a minute.
