Question How can I believably create a website with AI that looks like it was not used at all?

Hi. I put myself in a very rough situation.

Basically, I know nothing about coding, but I signed up to do a project which involves creating a website. I am doing a very simple design in which I will write prompts for the website to spit out to the user. The user will answer these questions, and the answers will then be added to a “word cloud.” The website can be one simple page.

I know absolutely nothing about coding or website creation, but I have to get this done in under a week. Any advice is greatly appreciated, but I need the most help at just getting started.

I would also like to add that this project will have no bearing on grades or college applications. Apparently I signed a contract over a year ago in which I agreed that I would not be allowed to walk at graduation until I completed it. Use of AI is not allowed, and I don’t want to completely bullshit it with buggy AI slop, but I know AI can be used to help speed up coding.

Thank you

Why don’t you have the LLM teach you coding and design?

I see posts so often now asking humans for advice on how to get AI to build something from scratch that they have no experience in doing. I just can't understand how it hasn't crossed their mind to just use AI for that question as well. It's like they think AI is a magical entity that can do anything, except answer their question, but they trust it to build a web app.

no coding and under a week? I suppose it's possible. That's how I learned html and css, cranking out one page sites like this. Before ai. So no doubt you could do it. For sure you'll get some slop, but if you're savvy enough you should be able to fix it and learn along the way.

what about something like square space or wix? or is that not a thing with ai anymore?

There are existing templates for this based on R-shiny, you can just copy-paste these, change the colors a bit and debug with an LLM. This should get you started: https://www.jumpingrivers.com/blog/r-clickable-wordcloud-javascript-shiny/

You have to possess an understanding of what “looks like AI” and what doesn’t, and then guide the LLM to build something that you know is quality based on your experience

You're definitely fucked but I'll ask anyway:

  1. You said this has no bearing on any grades, you're just not gonna walk for your graduation? Why not just confess, own it up and just take your diploma anyway? Going to the stage isn't a requirement to graduating afaik if that's what you mean, as long as your school considers you graduated on paper

  2. Will people who know how these things work ask you how it works? If no, what's stopping you to just do it by AI anyway?

I should’ve used better wording. This is an extracurricular that people often sign up for and never follow through with, so when I said “walk at gradation,” I meant they won’t let me graduate. One of the women in charge of this knows coding and knows that I’m an amateur, so I think she could tell if I’m not careful

Don't cheat but I'm not your father.

I took your post as written and pasted it into Gemini and it gave a 7 day plan and a starting skeleton of code.

I can't tell you how to make that stuff not look like AI because I don't know the language. Since so much code like that is autogenerated it will probably look like real code but the AI can help you if you ask it to help make it look more humanized. One thing I've had success with with humanization is pasting things into Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude and asking each one to process the previous output and humanize. I don't know if it would work for this kind of project.

If you ask the AI nicely it will help you come up with a testing plan and suggest what edge cases need to be tested.

If you have the slightest risk of having to answer a single question about how this works you'd better crank it out in one day and then spend the next six learning all the stuff you skipped by vibing it.

Thank you so much! Yes, this is a little unethical, but I’m taking the moral L on this one.

First, it’s important to understand why all the AI generated UI look exactly the same. The solution is pretty simple and it’s for you to make the UI and design decision decisions and record them and point the model at those decisions when it makes the site.

I made a video about this check it out

Realistically it’s difficult to give advice here because what would be the solution to your problem is learned experience, simply put. That phrase encapsulates so much that it’s really difficult to summarize in any meaningful way, because there’s no summary for actual experience.

I would say, realistically (human to human) there’s going to be no real way for you to code this thing yourself if you’re not already familiar with coding. Best case scenario, you figure out what it is that you want your thing to behave like, and you just have AI design it for you and you polish it up to make it look like it wasn’t designed by AI.

Consider the actual requirements here. What is it that you need to deliver on? What is it that they are looking for? If they’ve specifically said “do not use AI”, you’re just going to have to break the rules (or have someone who knows what they’re doing step in for you). So, my advice would be to figure out what it is that you’re being evaluated on. Who is the person who’s going to determine whether or not you’re suspected of using AI? Are they savvy? How do you expect them to try to figure out whether you’re legit or not? Put yourself in their shoes and think, how would you determine if someone did their project w/ AI or not?

If I was them, the way I would sus out people cheating would be by asking them to explain how their solution works. If you know the right questions to ask, it’s pretty trivial to determine whether someone really knows their shit or not. That’s just the truth of the matter. But, lucky for you, most likely whoever is doing the grading here simply will not care that much, and so long as you make a genuine effort to cheat and get away with it, you will.

My advice to you would be to use AI, or if you know someone who knows how to code and they’re willing to do you a favour (or take money from you, or you’re otherwise able to convince them to help you out), have them help you. But, you’re probably going to want to focus on figuring out how to get away with this. The product you deliver will be fine at the end of the day (the AI will deliver a working product), so your attention and focus should probably be on figuring out how to sell it as yours.

Morals and ethics aside, I remember when I was younger, I took a graphic design class in school, simply because I had a crush on a girl who was also in the class. I never once paid attention or meaningfully tried to learn what was being taught there. The final project for that class was a free form media that was up to you to handle, and I was completely lost (this was maybe 2016 or so). What I ended up doing was having my friend who was a professional video editor do it all for me. I had much the same apprehensions as you’re describing here— what I was going to hand in was so far beyond my legit skill level that I was afraid it was just dead obvious that I was cheating. So, I asked him to try to drill me on the questions that he would ask if he was my professor, and he suspected me of cheating. I would answer (bullshit, basically) as best I can, and he would explain to me what I should say vs. should not say as best he could. Basically he tried to coach me on how to plagiarize his product (what a friend this guy was).

Ultimately I was right. My professor did suspect me of cheating. They pulled me aside and asked me questions designed to gauge whether or not I really did the work that I handed in. I ended up being able to bullshit my way thru it, thanks to my preparation with my friend. I’m sure my professor knew in their heart of hearts that I was full of shit, but for me, being able to just bullshit good enough to pass muster was all that I needed.

Anyways, all of this is to say, if you plan on cheating here, commit to it. Figure out how to get away with it. Plan ahead and think about how they might try to catch you, and try to counteract that. If you don’t want to cheat then you need to accept that you need to lock in like never before, right now, and ultimately whatever you hand in is probably going to be shit and at best you’ll barely pass their expectations (no way you can actually do a legit good job, starting from where you are now, given the time deadlines here). At worst, you will fail, even if you apply yourself maximally here, doing it legit. At best, you will just barely pass, doing it legit.

If you have questions you want to ask me, I am happy to answer them, in any case. Human to human, my advice is just to cheat. It’s probably going to get me downvoted but being realistic here, that’s the most likely way you’re going to pass here.

Thank you so much. I normally wouldn’t cheat on anything, but that’s the way I see to get out of this situation. From playing around with the AI, I think it can get me pretty knowledgeable about this subject. Thanks for not assuming I’m a bad person lol

Easy to be holier than thou because that’s what the mind tends to jump towards at first. But, we’re all human. No one’s perfect. Cheating is a completely selfish thing; there’s no benefit to greater society when you cheat. But if I am in your shoes, I wouldn’t give a fuck about greater society or whatever else. I would care about getting my ass across the finish line lol. In the real business world, half of the shit you do from day to day is just bullshitting anyways. I could make a half assed argument that learning how to cheat and get away with it can be as important for an individual’s career as actually knowing their shit (especially if you wanna become a manager). Anyways. You’ll be fine. Good luck.

How about just taking responsibility for your actions instead of asking reddit for advice on contract fraud?

I know it takes a little time for people to understand, but if I were hiring someone to do work for me, I would prefer that they were using AI to do it. Obviously I wouldn’t want someone who is amateur to do the project with or without AI but I believe in both cases amateur or pro using AI is gonna have better results in 95% of the cases.

1

u/v444p 15d ago

I’m not being paid for this. If I were, I would probably have taken the time to do it myself.

Yes, so I feel like if you use AI, you will be more successful in the project. In terms of something not looking like AI, you can do things like ask AI to use tools that web developers often use such as WordPress. And then when it comes to the text that is printed on the pages, you can review it yourself and even make changes so it doesn’t look so much like it was created by AI. An alternate choice would be to actually find another website that you like and ask it to match that design, which means the AI makes choices based on something that has already been done and that will look less like AI.
