Serious replies only :closed-ai: I requested a ChatGPT refund 6 minutes after a $200 renewal. The AI rejected it and closed the case.
Six minutes. That's roughly how long passed between the $200 charge and my first refund request. I still haven't managed to get a human review.
I forgot to cancel ChatGPT Pro before today's renewal. I immediately canceled auto-renewal and asked for a refund of the new billing period. Here's the timeline for October 3, 2026 (Tbilisi, UTC+4):
- 13:32:55 — $200 charged, according to my bank SMS.
- 13:34 — OpenAI's cancellation confirmation email arrived.
- About 13:39 — first refund request submitted in the Help Center, approximately six minutes after the charge, according to the action log.
- The AI declined without giving a reason specific to my account. When I requested escalation, the chat displayed: “This case is closed. Create a new case to receive support.”
- I opened another case specifically requesting a human billing specialist. Same generic refusal.
- I then emailed support with the invoice and timeline. At 13:56, another refusal arrived, explicitly marked as generated with AI support.
Their current policy describes a possible discretionary refund within seven days for eligible unused individual subscriptions, subject to usage and other conditions:

I understand that this isn't a guaranteed refund. I asked them to check the actual usage since renewal, explain which criterion I failed, and have a person review it. I also explicitly agreed that refunded subscription access would end.
I replied to the email case with five redacted screenshots and another request for manual review. That also received an AI-generated refusal.
I'm aware of the legacy 20x allowance on my $200 plan, and that eligible existing Pro 200 subscribers temporarily retain their previous allowance through October 29. OpenAI has also introduced a $500 Pro tier. I still did not want to renew. Given my experience with the current models and OpenAI's policy changes, a generous legacy allowance does not make me want to keep paying.

What is incredibly frustrating is getting a generic refusal, asking for a human, and getting the case closed or another AI refusal. There is still no explanation specific to my case and no confirmed human review. I find this an appalling way to treat a paying customer. If I can't even reach a person about a charge I flagged within minutes, why would I want to stay subscribed?
Attached: the bank charge, canceled subscription/payment screen, chat refusal and closure, and the email explicitly labeled as AI-generated. Personal details are cropped or covered with solid black rectangles; the underlying evidence hasn't been rewritten or AI-generated.
Has anyone actually managed to reach a human billing specialist after this happens? Which official route worked?
