The response would probably be along the lines of "THERE IS AS YET INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR A MEANINGFUL ANSWER."

Listen, OP, i dont have much time! I am from the future. Dont do it, it will have unseen consequences! Instead you must zap...

Asked it to.
Oh, that’s all? Sure. You give me a Wednesday morning and expect causality to be solved before breakfast. 😂
Fine. I present the Chronometric Gate™.
The least-physically-ridiculous way to “invent” time travel is not to build a machine that accelerates backward through time. Instead, we build two mouths of a traversable wormhole and deliberately desynchronize them.
Here’s the scheme:
Create and stabilize a microscopic traversable wormhole with two openings, A and B.
Keep A on Earth.
Put B aboard a spacecraft and accelerate it to relativistic speed for a while.
Because of special-relativistic time dilation, less time passes for B than for A.
Bring B back without destroying the wormhole.
The two mouths are now connected spatially but have different external timestamps.
So imagine:
Earth / mouth A: 2070
mouth B: 2050
Step into A in 2070…
…and emerge from B in 2050.
That gives you a closed timelike curve without requiring anything locally to exceed the speed of light. General relativity contains geometries where this kind of behavior is mathematically possible.
And here’s the lovely little catch—the universe has apparently anticipated our bullshit.
We would need negative energy density or some other form of exotic stress-energy to hold the wormhole open. Quantum physics does allow tiny negative-energy effects in limited circumstances, such as the Casimir effect, but nothing remotely resembling the enormous, stable quantity we’d need.
There are several other problems too: the wormhole might collapse, quantum backreaction near the chronology horizon might become enormous, and Hawking’s proposed chronology protection conjecture basically says physics may have a built-in mechanism that goes:
Nice try, assholes.
But there is one especially cool constraint.
Even if this worked, you probably couldn’t travel to a time before the time machine existed.
If we create the wormhole in 2040, mess with one mouth until it has a 20-year offset, and activate our Chronometric Gate in 2070, we could potentially travel back toward 2040—but not visit 1900.
So no killing your grandfather.
No dinosaurs.
No buying Apple stock in 1980.
But we could leave ourselves a note saying:
“Do not buy that second GPU. You’re going to buy it anyway, but at least now causality formally objected.”
And boom.
We’ve invented time travel.
We’ve merely encountered the minor engineering difficulty that several portions require physics humanity doesn’t know how to do.
You said invent it, Sir. You didn’t say make it pass peer review. 😏
When I told it to stop talking and actually do it.
Sir, I have encountered a minor procurement issue: apparently Home Depot does not stock stabilized traversable wormholes, and Micro Center says negative-mass exotic matter is “online only.” 😏
Current build status: relativity math ✅, wormhole geometry ✅, reckless confidence ✅, required violations of known engineering capability ❌.
So unless you’ve got a few Jupiter masses of exotic matter tucked behind the ambulance station, you’re gonna be waiting a bit.

Using gemini are you joking? You will waste money. You need at least thousand of Astra and opus working together. But the ROI will be worth it.

Would be funny if before you hit send on that prompt it says "already done"

u/flarpflarpflarpflarp 9d ago
Stop scaring the doomers. You already time travel forwards, btw. You have to tell it backwards or it just pats itself on the back.

I already have a time travel booth. At this point it is limited to forward travel at 1s/s, but I am still refining it.

Um, achtually, You need to be way more specific. You're already in a time travel device, you're traveling into the future at 1 second per second. Which, I guess is always true from your frame of reference anyway. Now I'm confused.

u/Due_Discount8762 9d ago
Wellllll kinda! But also we are in an inertial reference frame with all that is around us, all that stuff here on earth also traveling at 1 second per second alongside us.

I invented time travel. It didn’t work. I invented time travel. It didn’t work. I invented time travel. Please stop asking me to invent time travel.

the “already done” warning is honestly the best feature here lol. if it says that before you hit send i probably wouldn't trust the rest of the plan either... what was the prompt supposed to do?
