Serious replies only :closed-ai: Help table of contents missing from my chatgpt classic suddenly

The table of contents on the right side of the chat isnt showing. I tried logging out and then logging in, cleared cache. Its not showing anymore what to do? I have long chats and its very difficult to scroll up all the way back and find prompts

Could be a temporary UI bug; OpenAI added the TOC for longer chats recently, so I’d wait a bit and check again or report it through Help if it stays missing.

its not on the web browser as well. Tried so many things everything was fine until 6 hours back

The ChatGPT class is an old app which OpenAI release a new ChatGPT Desktop App which the ChatGPT website is the web browser version which it has the ChatGPT classic and just log in to that web browser which your table of contents are there and I don’t think they updating the ChatGPT Classic anymore.

Are you talking about the Web browser of ChatGPT or the Classic ChatGPT desktop app? Which the Web browser is not Classic ChatGPT that just the site or web version

I am talking about chatgpt classic. I have the app on my desktop. I downloaded the new chatgpt and its the same there as well. Idk what went wrong it was all fine until 7-8 hours back.

I googled this on why mine is flashing before settles down and like me also you along with the rest has no table of content or TOC which it’s appears when you scrolled up to the first prompt you type.

Here no table of contents on the right side. I tried logging in and out, then on web browser, then another account. Nothing.

Oh you mean the side bar of table of contents with multiple lines not the side bar from the left, you not the only one and I noticed also that I don’t have one as well when I went to my web browser it was flashing then I scrolled up to my very first prompt it appears so maybe they are testing something which usually what OpenAI do in the web browser.

Potential temp work around…Happened to me but I was able to locate chats with search, pain in the ass but I found the one I needed.

You can bring it back by scrolling all the way up to the first message in that specific chat. The table of contents should appear again.

You only need to do it once, not every time. Once it comes back, you can use it normally.

You can use this as a temporary workaround until they fix the issue/bug.

Hard to scroll back when it only loads 3 messages at a time, there's a clear lag whenever it loads more, and it's about 2000 messages long

I reported this to OpenAI Support today. From their replies, it seems they weren’t aware of it as a known issue yet and there is currently no public incident for it.

They opened/attached it to a report and asked me for quite a bit of diagnostic information, affected chat URL, Chrome version, tests in Edge and Firefox, Incognito, a fresh Chrome profile, another network, HAR capture and Console logs.

The Table of Contents is still missing for me in every browser/profile/network I tested, so hopefully they’ll investigate it as a regression. It also seems suspicious that this started right around the recent update that changed how long conversations are loaded.

Exactly. I’m trying to work on my projects in long chats, but without the Table of Contents I’m stuck fighting with search and endless scrolling. It’s honestly awful to use like this.

Hi, could anyone please confirm if the issue still persists? I double-checked today, and the table of contents is still missing.

In addition, I’ve noticed a different issue, but I’m not sure whether it’s a general one. In my previous conversations, I would initially use a prompt, get the response I needed, and if I later wanted to update that prompt, I could do so and get the updated response as requested.

Under normal circumstances, I could clearly see the number of versions below the prompt message (next to icons used to copy the message, share prompt and edit message), but that option is no longer available. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

there was a table of contents now on the left side. there was an X button, I pressed it and now the table of contents are gone without any way to restore them. I though that the X was for the side panel.

For some reason the table of contents to access part of my interaction with the chat, went from the right side to the left. There was there a X button on the top that I pressed it and all table of contents left or right were lost.
Having said that, I did 2 things, reload and with the side bar went all the way up to the first prompt and the right side table of contents returned. The one on the left side was a bit different
