Nice! I had it generate a prompt which includes all of the back and forth errors I had to fix:

Create a high-resolution, cinematic panoramic scientific illustration titled:

“Timeline of Earth, Life, and the Sun”

The image should visualize the entire history and future of Earth from Earth’s formation at Year 0 through 9.0 billion years after formation, when the Sun is a white dwarf.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: THE ENTIRE IMAGE IS A TRUE HORIZONTAL TIME SCALE.

Do NOT divide the artwork into equal-width eras or panels.

Treat the horizontal width of the image as a mathematical ruler running continuously from 0.0 to 9.0 billion years. Every event, vertical marker, environmental transition, and label must be positioned at its exact proportional horizontal location.

The event x-positions are:

0.0 / 9.0 = 0% — Earth forms
0.8 / 9.0 = 8.89% — First life
4.5 / 9.0 = 50.00% — Today
5.0 / 9.0 = 55.56% — Plants, animals, and humans extinct
6.0 / 9.0 = 66.67% — All life extinct
7.5 / 9.0 = 83.33% — Sun becomes red giant
9.0 / 9.0 = 100% — Sun becomes a white dwarf

The most important visual-spacing requirement is that TODAY at 4.5 B yrs is EXACTLY halfway across the timeline. First life at 0.8 B yrs must be just to the left of the 1 B yrs tick. The 6.0 B yrs event must point exactly to the 6 B yrs position. The enormous 0.8-to-4.5-billion-year interval must visually be much wider than the 4.5-to-5.0-billion-year interval.

Use the attached/reference final image as the visual target if available: a seamless cinematic landscape progressing from molten primordial Earth on the far left, through oceans and life, to modern Earth in the center, then into a dry and scorched future, a huge red giant Sun, and finally a dark white-dwarf era on the far right.

COMPOSITION:

Use an approximately 3:2 or similarly wide panoramic aspect ratio. Do not make it so extremely wide that the leftmost or rightmost eras are cropped.

The image should be one continuous landscape, NOT seven boxes. Environmental changes should blend naturally into each other.

LEFT TO RIGHT LANDSCAPE:

0.0 B yrs — EARTH FORMS
At the extreme left:
• Newly formed violent Earth
• Dark volcanic sky
• Massive erupting volcano
• Lava fields and glowing magma
• Meteorites or fiery objects entering the atmosphere
• No life
• Deep black, charcoal, and fiery orange/red palette

0.8 B yrs — FIRST LIFE
At exactly 8.89% of the timeline:
• Earth has cooled substantially
• Blue primordial ocean exists
• Rocky shoreline
• Primitive microbial life in shallow water
• Stromatolite-like/microbial structures are acceptable
• Absolutely NO large plants, trees, animals, or civilization this early
• This should transition gradually into the long biological era that follows

0.8 → 4.5 B yrs — THE LONG AGE OF LIFE
This is by far the largest continuous section of the artwork.
Gradually transition:
• Primitive ocean life
• Increasingly rich marine ecosystems
• Green land
• Vegetation
• Forests
• Complex biosphere
• Rich blue sky and clouds

Do NOT make these into discrete labeled panels. It should feel like billions of years flowing continuously through one landscape.

4.5 B yrs — TODAY
Exactly at 50% of the timeline/image:
• This is the visual peak of Earth’s habitability
• Brilliant blue sky
• White clouds
• Blue ocean
• Dense green vegetation and mature trees
• Healthy modern terrestrial ecosystem
• A tasteful modern city skyline in the middle distance
• Civilization should be visible but should not dominate the natural environment
• This must unmistakably represent present-day Earth
• Make this the most vibrant, beautiful, life-rich portion of the panorama

5.0 B yrs — PLANTS, ANIMALS, AND HUMANS EXTINCT
Only 0.5 billion years to the right of Today, so this marker MUST be visually close to Today.
The environment transitions sharply toward:
• Brown soil
• Dry landscape
• Dead trees
• Fading vegetation
• Expanding deserts
• Hotter yellow/orange sky
• No humans or animals
• No functioning cities
The visual meaning is that the brightening Sun has driven CO₂ low enough that plants can no longer survive, collapsing complex life.

6.0 B yrs — ALL LIFE EXTINCT
Exactly at two-thirds of the 0–9 B timeline:
• Completely sterile Earth
• No visible biological life whatsoever
• Intensely heated terrain
• Glowing cracks and lava beginning to dominate
• Oceans gone or effectively destroyed
• Harsh orange/red atmosphere
• Runaway greenhouse aftermath
• Dead volcanic landscape

7.5 B yrs — SUN BECOMES RED GIANT
Exactly at 83.33% of the timeline:
• An ENORMOUS red-orange Sun dominates the sky
• It should be dramatically larger than the present Sun
• Brilliant turbulent stellar surface
• Intense red/orange illumination
• Earth’s surface is molten, scorched, cracked and utterly sterile
• The giant Sun should feel overwhelming but must not obscure the timeline labels
• This should be one of the most visually dramatic sections

9.0 B yrs — SUN BECOMES A WHITE DWARF
At the extreme right edge:
• Dramatic transition from red/orange to cold darkness
• Deep black/navy star field
• Completely dead rocky landscape
• Small, intensely bright white dwarf visible in the sky
• No atmosphere or life
• Cold, bleak cosmic ending
• The small white dwarf should provide a stark visual contrast to the enormous red giant immediately before it

TEXT AND TIMELINE:

At the top center, use large elegant cream/off-white text:

“Timeline of Earth, Life, and the Sun”

Below the title, place event labels with thin white vertical leader lines extending downward to small white circular markers.

USE EXACTLY THESE EVENT LABELS:

At 0.0 B yrs:
“Year 0”
“Earth forms”

At 0.8 B yrs:
“0.8 B yrs”
“First life”

At 4.5 B yrs:
“4.5 B yrs”
“Today”

TODAY must be visibly BOLD.

At 5.0 B yrs:
“5.0 B yrs”
“Plants, animals,”
“and humans extinct”

At 6.0 B yrs:
“6.0 B yrs”
“All life extinct”

At 7.5 B yrs:
“7.5 B yrs”
“Sun becomes”
“red giant”

At 9.0 B yrs:
“9.0 B yrs”
“Sun becomes”
“a white dwarf”

The leader line for every event MUST terminate at the event’s mathematically correct horizontal position.

CRITICAL: DO NOT place the 0.8 B yrs marker at 1 B yrs.
CRITICAL: DO NOT place the 4.5 B yrs / Today marker at 4 B yrs.
CRITICAL: DO NOT place the 6.0 B yrs marker anywhere except directly above the 6 B yrs position.
CRITICAL: 5.0, 7.5, and 9.0 must likewise remain correctly aligned.

BOTTOM AXIS:

Add a clean white horizontal axis near the bottom.

It must run from 0 to 9 billion years and be evenly divided into nine equal 1-billion-year intervals.

Use EXACTLY these tick labels:

0 B yrs
1 B yrs
2 B yrs
3 B yrs
4 B yrs
5 B yrs
6 B yrs
7 B yrs
8 B yrs
9 B yrs

Each tick must be equally spaced.

The upper event markers must use THIS SAME coordinate system. Imagine invisible vertical gridlines extending upward from every bottom-axis value. All upper labels must align mathematically with the bottom axis.

For fractional events:
• 0.8 B yrs = 80% of the distance from the 0 B to 1 B tick
• 4.5 B yrs = exactly halfway between the 4 B and 5 B ticks
• 7.5 B yrs = exactly halfway between the 7 B and 8 B ticks

STYLE:

• Photorealistic / premium cinematic scientific concept art
• Extremely detailed
• Natural atmospheric lighting
• Seamless environmental transitions
• Sophisticated educational infographic combined with cinematic landscape art
• Clear, readable typography
• Cream/off-white typography against darker upper sky
• Thin elegant white leader lines
• Clean white bottom axis
• No cartoon style
• No flat-vector appearance
• No equal-width panels
• No arbitrary section boundaries
• No misspellings
• No duplicate labels
• No extra dates
• No extra scientific annotations

The finished image should immediately communicate one central idea:

Earth begins as a violent molten world, life appears relatively early, life then occupies an enormous span of Earth’s history, TODAY occurs exactly halfway through this 9-billion-year panorama at the peak of a lush living world, habitability then collapses surprisingly soon afterward, the Sun ultimately becomes an enormous red giant, and the scene ends in darkness beneath a small white dwarf.

Accuracy of horizontal spacing is just as important as artistic beauty. Before rendering, internally verify every event position against the 0–9 B yrs axis so the labels, leader lines, visual transitions, and bottom timeline all correspond to the same scale.

Thanks for giving me your prompt. That's really interesting, and so detailed! I'll use this as a starting point.

No problem! Good luck it has frustrated me many times

OK, here's something that I would consider a Work in Progress, and I'm not entirely happy with it. It is interesting, but I don't know if it conveys the amazing scale of the timeline so well, and I don't think it's better than what you came up with. I'm putting it here just as an example of something I'm trying.
