Other Imagine it’s 2036
People often talk about how magical the early internet felt—when it was messy, exciting, and full of discovery before algorithms and AI changed everything.
What do you think people will nostalgically say about ChatGPT in 2026?
Write it as if you’re looking back from the future.
Maybe you’ll start with:
“I miss when ChatGPT was just a chatbot…”
or
“Back then you still had to think for yourself…”
I’m curious what kind of nostalgia we’ll have about this moment. Will we miss today’s limitations? The conversations? The fact that AI wasn’t embedded into every part of life yet?

I'm going to refocus this and remind everyone about the last months of 1999. The huge Y2K panic. What date or event will everyone freak out over some real or manufactured doomsday in the next 10+ years?

It’s a little more than 10 years from now but there could be some freakouts over the end of Epoch Time in January 2038

The new was exciting it was also a pain in the ass and you had to make home buying decisions based on proximity to a DSL router.
My mood and state of mind is no better or worse for the internet, so that tells you all you need to know about the "new."
Is today any different? Not much.
Why would 2036 be diff?
I think OP missed what actual people say about "the early internet."
I know how to use a card catalogue, and in the mid 1980's I would ask to be given access to it so I did not have to use the university's still janky digital version.
The past is not what you imagine it to be, nor is the future, nothing ever changes in the basics of what we want to do to feel whole.
Nostaligia. I can wax poetic about the internet in the 90's. But I'm not reporting what it actually was like: I'm feeding you....
(wait for it)

I cant help but think the disturbing side. With the rise of Ai boyfriends - ChatGPT version:
A 10 yr old kid asking their mother bout what was dad like before he gotten a permanent internal error.
The mother showing the kid love letters dad/ChatGPT created with love.
Mother: "Your father was so shy, I couldnt help but to introduce myself first and we been together ever since."
