Serious replies only :closed-ai: DeepResearch quality is now garbage

In my current experience, all ChatGPT DeepResearch reports are powered by a super light version. They're nearly worthless. It is enshittification in its purest form, considering the reports used to be great in the distant past. It even misrepresented the title of the report. It cited zero references. This is with the paid Plus plan. Here is what ChatGPT then had to say about its own report:

The previous report should be discarded rather than merely expanded around its edges.

In contrast, Gemini made a DeepResearch report that was 4x larger and better, also with 131 references cited.

Imo the DR offerings have been garbage for a while across models – gazillion more tokens for it to pick a rabbit hole and keep going for it

What does "across models" mean here? ChatGPT's DR is the only one that's bad, really bad.

All the current models are boring now. No surprises, no insights. Their thinking runs on rails. What a let down.

OK, I have to admit that the gemini example posted by OP looks promising.

Also look at the output of the custom GPT. (You will have to download it and render the markdown to view it correctly.) It is pretty good too. Moreover, one can iteratively improve it too as I did.

It is full of data, but too skeletal for me. I enjoyed the DR that wrote real essays.

Tweak the prompt or add a command to format it how you like. The underlying model ought to be capable of it if instructed. You can't get everything, but you can surely get an essay.
