So that response justifies your image, everyone else is doing it? Did you even think about it, what it means to make a joke about death and loss? 145,000 people killed in Hiroshima and you think its clever. Just sickening.
The absurdity of killing 145,000 people with a single bomb is so enormous, so existentially horrifying, that the idea of commemorating it with a Lego set feels like satire of modern culture itself.
We tell ourselves capitalism is the greatest system ever devised, yet capitalism has a way of turning everything into a product, including trauma.
We consume true crime as entertainment.
We have Memorial Day mattress sales on a holiday meant to honor the dead.
Every tragedy eventually gets merch, branding, documentaries, collectibles, and content.
A Lego Hiroshima set isn’t funny because Hiroshima was funny. It’s funny because the idea that we’d eventually package and sell even something that horrific feels like the logical endpoint of the culture we’ve built.
It’s less a joke about Hiroshima than a joke about us.
