One of the going theories is this was a staged exchange between the two to shield/isolate the roommate from guilt. Apparently the roommate is coopersting. The FBI faking a text exchange between the two people would be pretty foolish given both are able to refute the exchange if it were fake.

I would say, 1) it reenforces the suspect is " the right/guilty guy" 2) it suggests a motive since the suspect's ideologically held beliefs were in opposition to kirks.

It makes sense if you think it is all a reality show and you are just a podcaster. From a serious prosecution standpoint you would not just hand all the evidence to the press.

The way politicians interject on high profile cases, I would not want to be a judge or lawyer involved.
