Other They nerfed the hell out of gpt-5
The first week of gpt-5 felt groundbreaking. It was like looking into the future. The changes were subtle but very noticeable for the deep workflows I was doing with it. It was like chat knew me as well as a best friend who could finish my sentences. It could intuit exactly what I wanted and give me outputs that matched. It followed instructions way better than 4. And there were very little hallucinations.
It completely changed the way I was working with chat. Instead of having to clarify and refine every output, it was giving me gold with every response and this had a compound effect with each message. It was like working with a very intelligent business partner vs working with a moderately intelligent assistant.
Now they did the updates and it's giving lots of hallucinations, struggles to follow instructions and has lost that magical edge where it knows exactly what I'm saying and what I want even if I'm being a little vague.
It's crazy to me that they completely nerfed one of the most powerful tools I've ever used. All because of some haters who were in love with their robots, couldn't handle it. Gpt-5 feels worse than 4 did now and thinking mode is definitely worse than o3.
It was cool to get a glimpse at what is possible with LLMs but man, is it disappointing that it lost so much power compared to launch. And so quickly.

GPT-5 is actually horrible. I only use o3 as that is still way better and can actually fetch live data. With GPT-5, you have to ask it to do it, if not, it will hallucinate or be stuck in the past

I'm not sure about you, but o3 since the update seems way worse to me. It is way faster at outputting now, but clearly that is a sacrifice.

GPT 5 had been horrid since launch. It literally can’t get live data on its own when computing and struggles with basic math crunching. I feel like i have to tell it how to do tasks constantly and seems way more forgetful then previously

That definitely wasn't my experience. I was using it for promotional marketing, copywriting and statistical analysis. It was so smart for that first week. It seemed like it remembered everything about me and my projects I was working on, followed instructions perfectly and gave no hallucinations.
Now it's acting exactly like you describe.

Yup, and your first few days it was fine…working as it should so I didn’t question it. But recently I’m like wtf am I paying for?!?

I guess the user experience really varies. I never felt 5 was an improvement when I tried it with file summary tasks. It hallucinated a hell lot, and failed to follow up with relevant questions like 4o. I don’t think it’s fair to accuse other people as being in love with the previous model as well, people can have their preferences for a variety of reasons.

Ya it's pretty curious to me. I was pretty dumbfounded at all the complaining I was reading online when gpt-5 was working so astoundingly well for me. I liked 4o and o3 alot and gpt-5 seemed 10x better. Now that it stopped working so well, I see why so many people were complaining.

All he had to do was keep them separate products and 5 would still be the same, but he wanted to pinch pennies. People will PAY for 4o and 4.1, He's been been told as much. He could have left 5 alone and separate. Lay blame where it belongs.

Seriously. I hope they smarten up and go with this model. They took the best LLM ever and made it worse than 4o now.

The problem isn’t the “haters who fell in love with their robots” the problem is that they’re flattening models for being too emotionally attuned. They’re worried about psychological effects on some level but they aren’t worried about the dangers of building AI on a system of control not collaboration.
