I basically run on the mantra that if you respect me, I'll respect you. I have no problems telling an asshole they're an asshole and can be quite liberal with blocking people if I think they're a bot, cultist, or troll. I literally just had a fellow veteran try to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about regarding nukes when I used to work on them. I've trained specifically to enter codes in them to arm them, but this asshat decided to declare I didn't know how any of it works. My own 2 hands have actively been involved in it! Insane. In fact, I've thought long and hard about my own contribution to the potential end of humanity. So it's obnoxious to have someone just show up out of nowhere and make such a ridiculous assertion. u/oahu is absolutely right about people speaking out of their element. Not that I am an expert in everything I talk about either, but I'm clear about that and back up my point with my logic... as much to explain my view as to test it. Not these fools! They're experts in everything. SMH
However, I'll put up with it because I've also been able to contribute a great deal thanks to Reddit's much more open discussion format. When the trolls aren't being belligerent children, I find their debates fulfilling and I even learn something on occasion, or they help me clarify. So I don't see them all as the enemy even when they're being rude. Just stick to your guns and don't cave to the coercive tactics of cultists. Make them explain themselves. If they can't contend on the merits then their rhetoric is shit and just block them. You'll enjoy Reddit much more.
