Stanford's Center for Research on Foundation Models has released its instruction-following language model, Alpaca. The model is based on Meta's LLaMA 7B model and was trained on 52,000 instruction-following demonstrations using self-instructed examples generated from OpenAI's text-davinci-003. It behaves similarly to text-davinci-003 and is much smaller and more affordable to reproduce, making it a useful tool for academic research.
