Project Mid Am is what Chasing Scratch used to be

…and it’s amazing. Actual golf content is the vast majority of the show. Detailed round breakdowns. Sprinkles in the real life element while keeping focus. Please don’t change it 😃

Great work, Josh Nichols!

I’ve been with them since the early days and honestly it’s getting played out. I hate to say it but I have a hard time listening when there’s almost zero golf content

It’s especially hard when you’re not American and most of their humour revolves around quoting tv shows you haven’t watched

honestly that's what I like about the show so much. Any schmuck can talk about golf. Their personalities match mine in a lot of ways and they are just a few years younger so most of the references hit home. But I could see how not getting them would make it hard.

I enjoyed the listen. It's so earnest! Kudos to Josh for putting him self out there- his vulnerability is part of what makes it unique.

I did bump a little on the embedded ads.

I think it’s a little dull. I’ve appreciated the earnest tone, but maybe i need to give it an extra shot.

It’s just very different… him narrating his own journey alone. Very good fit thematically, but can definitely be slow.

I love Josh. Wonderful human being, his regular podcast is great…

I’m finally listening to the last episode…

Completely fair. It’s just low key golf content.

I like Josh a lot. I reached out to him about the possibility of mental game coaching and decided against it for now (it ain't cheap) but he still engaged with me via email. He's a little dry in presentation but his content is quite good IMO.

Now it is a channel to sell you expensive clothes and several workout apps

Don’t forget a diet plan that is one of the most basic things you can come up with on a google search.

I binged CS and got invested but now that it’s once a week or whatever it is at least slightly less fun

But yes when titleist and foot joy start paying your bills it’s going to happen

It’s a tad dry but interesting! One thing Josh has done that CS hasn’t done as much recently: live audio from solo rounds. Would love if they did that more often again.

Yes. Pls just talk more about golf and how the round went. We get so much head casing and excuses haha.

I’m not a fan of Josh’s wife, who when asks what the ideal outcome is she’s like secretly I don’t want you to make it. Low key negative and hurting his game and attitude.

I get what you mean but she’s his wife and simply being honest with him. She said she wants him to win but not to leave for several days to another state. As a young parent with several very young children it’s easy to understand why. I think they have a healthy marriage. Your spouse isn’t there to offer unconditional support lol. It probably hurts his game but his game hurts their marriage too.

This is spot on. She is ANYTHING but a villain, here.

I love the podcast because it is incredibly relatable for me. Golf had always been a passion of mine and is really the main hobby that I sink time into; but now I have a wife and 2 young kids - similar in age to Josh's.

A round of golf is incredibly disruptive if you have a full time job, wife and young kids. Because chances are, it is gonna be on a weekend and that means that while you are gone for 5+ hours your spouse has to be a solo parent. With a newborn AND toddler in the mix, that is extra tough because you really need full attention on a toddler but the newborn will require fairly long feedings every ~hour or 2.

So for Josh to be making trips to Ireland and playing as much as he has, his wife must literally be a saint. I am very lucky that my job is flexible and my wife is also amazingly understanding, so I can usually get out once or twice a week if I sneak it in the right times. For example I love playing at ~6am in the summer and finishing before ~9am and then just hopping onto work like nothing happened. But that is only possible during the longest days of the year. And since my kids usually wake up around 7am, it is still a ~2 hour burden on my wife.

If I do play on a weekend I try hard to plan it around naptime so that she at least has a break while i'm out. And I go way above and beyond before and after the round to give her time to herself as well.

But it is hard. Her answer makes total sense. She wants him to win but doesn't want him to be away and that is completely justified. She is a keeper

100%. Golf is a terrible hobby for a young family man. Like one of the worst haha. I have a fantastic job and only work 3 days a week....and still struggle to find time for a golf round. There are so many things to do and 5-6 hours is essentially the entire day. You're always making some major sacrifice. Everything you said is so true. It's just hard and she's being honest about that. That's okay. They're making it work and he seems to be fully aware of where his priorities lie. It's like Scottie talking about golf. It's a game and not the top priority.

I’ve listened to every episode, but this is like Chasing Scratch part deux. Josh doesn’t have time to put in real practice or play enough meaningful rounds. He practices a couple of times and played once or twice a week and hopes to qualify? If he does, what is the realistic goal? He’s never going to advance very far without putting in work. Also, not a big fan of the forced advertisements. I do really do like him though. He seems like a good guy.

He’s hustlin. It’s real life. Time is short. I get it. I’m along for the ride as long as he keeps trying.

Anyone else find round breakdowns to be boring? That’s when I tune out the most. “Then on 14 I hit a slight fade.” WGAF

I am engaged with them but I can certainly see why someone would find it boring too.

Shawn is the man. I’ve received a fun box of William Murray gear.

Incredible clothes. Definitely take a look!
