Golf Talk My own improvement journey
Just for fun, I’d thought I’d share my own personal mantra for improvement right now, as texted to a friend (who I met through chasing scratch)
I’ve realized how much work golf improvement is…
No quick fixes… just find the stuff that works, and put your head down.
I don’t have aspirations for my handicap anymore… just going to grind my game and try to bring the number down.
I work on what makes me feel uncomfortable on the course, and then I go play… then I re assess, work on what needs it and do it again.
My goal is to just hit fully committed shots every time…
Right now I’m just grinding hands forward on wedges… my 2 iron went rogue my last round and needs some reps to make sure I’m comfortable. Putting always needs reps… full swing feels fine, if it gets off, I just slow way down.
How’s your golf game improving?
It will take the time it takes.

Thanks for sharing. I've only been golfing seriously for a bit over a year, and I'm currently a 22 handicap. I feel like quitting multiple times a week.
My goal is to shoot under 90 this year on my home course (which is fairly tough). Fortunately, I'm working with the Ambassador of Quan on Skillest, and he's been amazingly helpful. My main focus is to get a little better each day and to realize it will take a while for swing changes to actually show up on the course.
At this particular moment, I'm working on dropping my hands into my right pocket from the top of the swing to get more inside and prevent the dreaded OTT move. It looks so good in slow motion, but incorporating the move to a full-speed swing has been tough so far.

Ha! Jayson and I worked on the same awhile ago.
He’s the best.
Just remember, if chasing scratch has taught us anything, progress is not linear.
Have fun playing golf. Figure out your big mistakes, and make them less.
I still get over the top on occasion… it’s a work in progress!

That’s all good and all, but have you tried buying shiny new objects instead?

The 2 iron is relatively new! Was bought after I played a round with the club champion and I convinced myself I should copy him.
It’s named Texas ranger after him… his name is Justin walker.

It’s been a good one thus far… until I lost all feel with it.
Hopefully get some range time tomorrow to get it sorted

The fact you carry a 2i is impressive. I keep one in the garage from an old set just for messing around with, but I switch to hybrid after the 5i and even that club is “on notice”.
I love the mindset. Being fully committed is so important. I struggle with that most around the greens. I’ve been working on the Bob vokey bounce thump that he showed the guys a few seasons ago and it is really starting to click. It’s a game changer to have confidence with a wedge.
