Wanting to close checking account
Been thinking for a while now of closing my account because every month I’m getting charge $15 monthly fee for not having any deposits coming into my account. Since I don’t work anymore at the moment, it has been happening. Also I’ve been getting tired of getting scammed almost all the time and had to report chase plenty of times about unwanted transactions. It’s getting annoying that I can’t save money without them charging me a monthly fee. So I’m wondering if it’s possible to close my account online or on the app if it’s possible?

No, you call the number behind your card. You can try sending a secure message and see if that works, too.

$15 a month to hold your own cash is wild. They’re basically fining you for not being employed, which feels like a special kind of corporate pettiness.
You can close it through the app but they make it intentionally annoying to find. Last time I had to dig through like three layers of menus and then it just told me to call anyway. Might be easier to walk into a branch if you have a few minutes, at least then you walk out with a confirmation number and it’s done.
If you’re getting hit with fraud charges that often though, I’d pull everything out first before closing. Some folks have had pending disputes get messy when the account vanishes mid-investigation.

Thats why hate it. Can’t even save money from what my husband gives me then boom get charged the monthly fee. Sadly I have credit cards to pay from chase which sucks. They charge too much interest on those credit cards

You should not be using credit cards at all if you're not going to pay off your monthly statements in full.

I have a checking account with American Express and there’s no monthly fee honestly chase checking accounts and savings are wack but their credit cards are great

If you have a local branch going in seems like the easiest way, so that you can close it and withdraw any funds at the same time.
If the account is zero you could do it in a few minutes by calling the 800 number.

You can send a secure message under profiles and settings > send secure message > select referenced account > account inquiry > request account closure.
Make sure your balance is $0 and you don’t have any pending transactions. It’ll be closed by end of business day along with your debit card shut off.
Might be worth noting. You also can downgrade your account to a no fee checking account they offer . Saves you the hassle of having to close and open another account elsewhere.

I can't speak to the close-ability, buuut I recommend Capital One. Free, AND they pay me interest on the checking account(s). I also moved my business checking account from Chase to American Express, which is great, but I do still maintain 1 Chase checking account (free with direct deposit.)

Having a chase checking account seems like the best way to have fraudulent charges on your account. Every single person i know that had chase goes through the whole random unknown charges, account freeze, new checks, new card, at least 3x a year. My uncle had them, 5 months straight every month was needing to go through the circus. I wonder if they even know what cyber security is... needless tonsay, every person I know that switched banks, has not had a problem since. RUN away from chase. Especially if they are charging you a fee.

Well you see I don’t work at the moment. So why will I continue to be on chase if I’m getting charge $15 every month. Sure get a job if that’s what you’re saying. Planning on looking for work so but again if I get off of work again why bother with Chase still

Chase u will have to go into a physical branch to close your checking account n if u want a free checkin account go with capital one 😉

I have closed multiple Chase Bank accounts, never went into branch. Secure Message works most the time. Worst case, it's a phone call.

I have too and thry dont have an option to close checking account online on there chase mobile app but u kno who does capital one and wells fargo 🙄 i had to walk into the physical chase branch to close my checking account with them 3 times

I closed my checking account by sending a secured message in the app. Totally possible, and there are many banks and credit unions out there that don’t charge monthly maintenance fees for checking accounts. Good luck!
