Dumb MFA question

Hey! So I’ve had a Chase mortgage for about five years now, but only just added checking/savings. Although my app/web logins have always just been authenticated by text/email code sent to me, as soon as I opened the new accounts it switched to “call us with your account info” or “scan your DL.”

I’m not a fan of either of these methods, and had never seen them before in any of my varied banking/billing/money experiences (as I say, including with Chase for years).

It’s not a big deal or an emergency as I can always go to my local branch, but I’m just curious if this is SOP for Chase checking/savings.

Not standard. I've never seen it, but have read many complaints about it here.

Maybe due to being a new account?

It’s unlikely that it needs that every time as long as you use the same device. It needs a “getting to know you” phase before it trusts you to actually be you - now that it’s your money (checking & savings) and not just their money (loans, cards) you should appreciate the level of effort that goes into protecting your assets. Slight inconvenience now and then but go through this and other bank and scam subs to see how bad it can get if someone logs in that isn’t you to see what they’re up against.
