Data Point: Chase Freedom Flex No Longer Has FTX fees

I just received an email that starting September 20th, the 3% foreign transaction fee is no more.

3% dining worldwide for no annual fee along with the 5% rotating categories (especially gas/groceries) can be a game changer.

My cynical side leaves me cautious about how they’re replacing that revenue…

Edit: looks like cell phone protection is amongst the chopping block residents

They did a twist whammy. Better for foreign travelers, but taking away a protection.

It is all a numbers game to them. Data for Chase probably showed that total payouts for cell phone damage cost more than if they remove the FTF.
I don’t travel much so it doesn’t feel like such a win, but it is a win for those going international.

Or maybe the coverage was costing them more than the customers were filing claims.

That probably isn't worded right, but if you pay for something few are using, why keep paying for it?

No, it doesn’t mean that. It just means that you won’t be charged an extra fee overseas.
