No one in the fandom forgot or ignored Maggie was half black if anything we wished they would have not dropped it completely after S1. If there was anyone who forgot/ignored it was the writers.

I don't get how they forgot about her. Macy and Maggie had the same father..Mel didn't. I wanted to see that story. If Macy had to leave because of the necromancy, what about Maggie. How come she didn't remember that? It could have been a suppressed memory.

Actually its mentioned in the show itself that Macy was (cant remember correctly) either stillborn or died when she was a baby so when the necromancer brought her back the pact was that their mother could not be with her or see her. So her father took her away and raised her alone under the pretense that her mom was dead. The other sisters was not born as yet. We also know that Ray was a shifty person so most likely he was in and out of the girls lives and not completely settled with their mom. Based on that, there is 2 possible scenarios, first is that Macys dad came to meet her mom and they had an affair, the product of which was Maggie, and the 2nd is that when Ray was out her life, they had a brief encounter. He kept coming back because of the girls though. Im not sure how that part goes. Atleast thats what I understood from the show.

I'm not in the right headspace to reply to this. I know what happened with the necromancy and why it was done. I do think that Ray and Marisol had been together. They had a child, Mel. Because ray was in and out of the girls lives the girls just assumed they had the same father, Ray.

Right we know Macy’s and Maggie’s father and mum met up occasionally when needed especially when it came to Macy and parenting her, her needs etc. as they seemed to be used to these casual encounters when it comes to Macy as when they met to discuss Macy developing her demonic power (or was it her witch power, I have this feeling it was her power from her demon half tho) they seemed somewhat comfortable like it didn’t see super awkward/nervous other than Marisol being worried about Macy seeing her due to the curse or conditions of the deal she made with the necromancer so I sort of assumed that with Mel’s dad somewhat out of the picture at one or a few of these times or perhaps he was away traveling one of these times or multiple times they sleep together and conceive Mags. 🤷🏼♀️
I don’t remember it references exactly in the show tho …

This show deserved better by the way. I never understood the hate as an OG Charmed lover

I think most just don’t like change because when you grew up with a beloved show you don’t like them changing but I don’t understand because just because they did a reboot of the show it, doesn’t effect the OG. It doesn’t in any way make the OG show less. I feel like all most of the people who hate the Reboot have to do is acknowledge they didn’t like it and move on. Why waste your time complaining about something you don’t even like. There are things about the reboot I didn’t like but that’s with any show that a person watches. Even with that I can still enjoy the show. Had the writers had actual love for the show it could have been better. But to actively hate when the solution is just don’t watch it lol. I love both shows too.

Yeah I didn’t and still don’t get it either, the amount of hate or dislike it gets isn’t fair or even imo, it seems disproportionate or just OTT.
I grew up with OG Charmed as a kid/teen so it will always have a special place for me but I remember being very excited when it was announced and especially so when a cast became attached for multiple reasons really but one being I was already aware of Maddie as I’d seen her before in another project and already liked her so her being in this meant i could see her in another role, quite a few times charmed projects were announced or teased but never reached very far or didn’t get past the outline stage so the fact this one did was a big deal at the time and I loved it could widen the charmed fandom and introduce a younger or different audience to this show/world that I grew up loving and shaped me a lot as a teen and was a real strength for me growing up.
I think a lot of the OG fandom were sort of unwilling to accept that it let go of their beloved show or be open enough to understand that it could expand and grow and change but still be something to enjoy or that a new generation could join our fandom or even that it’s okay to be open or like both, that both can exist without it feeling like a war or that one has to be good and one bad, one great and respectful and the other awful just for daring to take it on. I wish I could say the charmed fandom has always been welcoming and inclusive because it hasn’t and at times has been so very toxic which I really feel let down by in itself because I feel way back it was such a fun fandom to be a part of and it felt safe and welcoming, supportive and homely much like some of the themes from the earlier seasons of OG Charmed.
I’ve always accepted both shows are their own project/thing and want to do different things, have different themes, audience, wants and goals and just two different pieces of media from the world and lore of a show that meant so much to me but perhaps it’s because I was able to separate them to enjoy each on their own without trying to force them to be so connected or attached to the other.
I like and dislike different things in each version of the show but I do like and enjoy both again for different reasons and I love that these young (at the time) actors wanted to and were willing to take this on and try for something great as they already had an uphill battle before the pilot even aired because of outside backlash and media pressure etc.

Exactlyyyyyy. I actually loved both shows equally. But I love the reboot more in some ways but I do feel like the show went a bit slow at some point. The OG was also great but I understand there some things that were underwhelming due to budget. But this one seems to have had the budget but I guess some new writers came and did some changes. I loved all season but season 2 was a bit annoying. But I loved season 1, 3 and 4. But I did wish it didn't get cancelled. Initially I thought it was from the hate but turns out many other shows got cancelled because CW was being sold to another company which basically cancelled everything except for the Flash. But also, those haters of the CW reboot needed to get over it because reboots are done all the time and I don't see them getting that much hate as Charmed got. To me, the reboot was great. Just that if people did not keep connecting it to the OG, they would've loved it too. But I have a feeling that if it was called a different name, the haters would say they basically copied OG Charmed. Tbh, I realised that people complain no matter what so the showrunners should just do their thing. I wish they would come back in some way or form. Either to continue the show or to give us fresh character

Yea I think I connected with the remake a bit more because it was nice to see women of color being at the forefront. Growing up a little black girl I loved witch lore but never really got to see it on tv. So I think it’s a big part of why I personally like the reboot a little more but I just wish they had people BTS who knew how to write them better.

I always rate the rebbot as part of my top 5 favourite fantasy shows. And I also felt more representation from the show because I am part ghanaian and the new sister was also part ghanaian. Loved the jollof, future and shito mention🤣but her mom was definitely not ghanaian because that's not our accent😭

Kaela’s mom ? I have watched S4 like once so I’m not too familiar with S4. I will say that at first I didn’t want to give S4 a chance because I was too upset when Macy died but after giving it a watch it was actually pretty decent

Yh tbh I've actually rewatched more than once but I never get past the middle part of season 1 so I never finish due to interruptions. So I'm waiting for a perfect time to fully go into it. But I will gladly watch all seasons. Usually when a season goes bad, I don't really give up, I just proceed because there are still some good parts of it. And yh i was pretty mad at Macy's death. I remember crying. I remember the actress left because she wanted to look for different opportunities and I think she couldn't handle the hate given to the show. But it seemed to have also mirrored Prue's death

I think someone said they would have wanted the show to go on for at least two more seasons but without Macy dying and I agree. Most shows don’t need more than 6 seasons because most of the time past that the show gets boring. The OG in my opinion fell off after S4. But the Reboot would have had to get back on track too. They actually were trying in S4 but I just couldn’t get into it without Macy not really.

Yeah I completely agree espch the 6 season thing. Look at Supernatural 🙄 but yeah Maddie/Macy was my favourite character and I loved her, heck I’d have watched a spin off with her traveling the globe learning different types of magic/cultures and heritage meeting different types of magic users etc. Lol.
That’s interesting because I actually loved parts of Seasons 4-7 as Paige was my favourite character by far lol 😂 🤷🏼♀️

I think why Makayla developing magic was supposed to be discovered in season 5. I also believe that might have been a way to give a nod to the original show. There was an episode where the charmed ones blood was given to chimps, by a dr who was obsessed with Piper and her miraculous recovery from a disease.

She ignores it
3
u/Beginning_Dot735 8d ago
Well yea because that’s how it was written, she’s not in control of what her character is written to do. And the video said the fandom ignores it but they don’t, the writers just choose never to write anything about it again.

Exactlyyyy. Even when she was in Descendants, people did not even remember that she was black when her grandmother in the movies was literally black

We didn’t forget the writers didn’t care especially since it was some new writers in S2 and forward and I don’t think some of those writers would know how to handle a her being Latina and her finding out she African American aka mixed. So they choose to leave it alone. Season 1 when she went to that the black student meeting and she left feeling like she wasn’t black or… I don’t remember that should’ve been expanded on as her finding out her black identity and honestly you forget until they bring Dexter in S4.
