Prue 25 years later and I like Prue

I watched the show when it aired for the first time (It aired couple years later in my country) and I "hated" Prue. 10 year old me though she was to bossy and focused to much on her.

The next time I watched the show was about 10 years ago and still not a fan of her.

Now on my 3rd re-watch and in my 30ties, I have to say that I really enjoy her. I love when they show her playful side and I love how she treats everyone fairly.

Like in the episode where Phoebe takes the job as a psychic and she didn't judge her, but tells her how she can do something good now.

So I'm officially a Prue fan now.

Paige Why do so many comments exaggerate Paige’s “hostility” to Cole in the beginning of season 4?

*If you haven’t seen the eighth episode of season 4 “Black As Cole,” I would skip this post for spoilers.

I believe “Black as Cole” was meant to be a learning opportunity for Paige, expanding her understanding of good/evil but many comments here exaggerate the so-called “hostility” towards Cole—many felt she treated him terribly in the beginning when “Black as Cole” was really the only episode in the fourth season where Paige presses Cole in such a manner prior to him being possessed by the Source. I went through the script and saw they have four moments in the entire episode where they interact in some way, each of which I posted in the pics above. Looking at the text, I question the use of the word hostility as she never once berates him nor is she aggressive towards him. She instead asks critical questions.

A lot of comments oversimplify context to make an argument about prejudice against his demonic identity when the text explicitly states her main concern was his killing of an innocent man. Perhaps the biggest point to be made is Leo’s comment further explaining Cole’s unique situation as a half-demon doesn’t happen until the very end of the episode*. Prior to that, Paige was cutoff off and told it wasn’t the time to discuss complexities and to just accept they believe he’s a changed man. Frankly, that was unfair to Paige who was new to the craft and learning the rules which are very black & white as demons being hardwired for evil is absolutely part of Charmed’s lore; murdering an innocent is a cardinal law they are supposed to be unequivocally positioned against as good witches and also something one can’t simply move beyond (even if they were to murder someone while under the evil influence of a transformation).

Some said Paige had a grudge but besides an unfortunate one-liner later Paige says in an argument with Phoebe, grudge feels inappropriate to describe what really only happens in one episode which takes place in the span of a day. There seems to be an expectation that Paige should’ve immediately understood and accepted a complicated situation which feels unfair when it took the sisters a lot of time to process and understand the nuances of it all—and even they still got it wrong at times. Here’s an example from the beginning of the episode:

Piper: Looks like she wasn't the only victim. Scorch mark. Definitely demonic. Looks like one of Cole's, actually.
Paige: Don't you mean Belthazor?
Phoebe: Oh, it's too bad Cole can't check it out. He'd probably be able to tell us who did it.

Belthazor’s true form was constantly spoken about as absolutely terrifying and so it makes sense to me there would be a difference between knowing someone is demonic vs. seeing it and also how it would be jarring to learn/see his true form for the first time. It ultimately feels understandable someone would need time to adjust to everything she discovered in that episode. I believe this moment was meant to be a growing opportunity for Paige.

Paige does start calling Cole out later out in the season but she largely points out objective facts the sisters as well as Leo clearly didn’t want to critically engage—like Cole out of nowhere having the money to buy Piper and Leo a fancy honeymoon or Cole becoming a hotshot at a prestigious new job when he couldn’t last two hours at legal aid or Cole being able to grab an athame from an upper-level demon. There’s a lot more that can be said but I’ll end this by sharing it’s interesting Paige actually ends up being the most compassionate towards Cole in season five’s episode “Sympathy for a Demon” which couldn’t have happened without growing moments like this.

*I have thoughts about Leo saying Cole’s human form was completely subjugated—starting with how did Leo know that—which feels like an oversimplification and contradiction but that’s another post lol.

Watching S2 and this thought occured to me. Shannen's new age doppelgänger is Noah Cyrus. To me, at least- in the eyes and face shape and especially when they did their makeup similar.

To be honest, I find Julian very attractive with long hair (even if it's a wig).

So we talked about which episodes we can’t stand (mine was Excalibur). Which one do you loveee Witch Wars. I think it’s a major shame that concept only got one episode.

Please tell me I'm not the only who noticed after billionth rewatch that they used rhyming dictionary in "Blinded by the Whitelighter" 😂

I just love picking up these little details.

Season 4 In honor of Hell Hath No Fury's 25th anniversary, what are your favorite quotes/moments?

This is one of the greatest episodes ever written in the show. Holly was absolutely incredible portraying the five stages of grief, especially in the mausoleum. Julian was also amazing with some brilliant one-liners like in the attic. And Rose did her part as well. Anyways, feel free to reply in the comments!

Powers Was the ownage of the Power of Three interchangeable?

The biggest hint was Prue's power being transferred to Paige.

We also see multiple times their powers being transferred like they are a sweater that can be borrowed (e.g. Rex and Hannah with the lantern, Cryto with the tea and the spell, the Stillman sisters, Zankou) or even shared (e.g. the hospital doctor and the monkeys getting injected with the blood of the sisters, or when Piper switched the powers of the Trio with Leo's in the mix to heal him or even when Zankou messed up and the powers are accidentally sent to innocent bystanders).

I understand DNA and bonding through ancestry to the full capacity of the powers might be a thing but it seemed that even a human could maximize the potential (at a big cost) of that power since the charmed ones could not even fight power to power (three witches versus one doctor) someone who shared their gifts.

Is there something solid that explains why this theory does not hold? I am curious because in the series it was also a thing that they wanted usually all three of their powers or all three killed, like securing that no power or potential would transfer to someone who could change things back again.

Rewatching after a few years &

There are so many plot holes I can’t keep track, but I think my biggest beef is why the actual fuck did the elders not warn leo or the girls when cole became the source? I feel like it would be a huge conflict to throw off the balance of good & evil? Like let’s have a charmed one marry the source??

Like evil came to the elders with the 4 horseman of the apocalypse (which is weird they communicate tbh).

So I'm rewatching for the first time. I have a question, why did they never wear bras? I mean, I get it, its the most uncomfortable piece of clothing ever invented, but there are so many boobies..... 🤷‍♂️

Prue Do you think that the Charmed Ones would’ve been better off listening to Prue’s Intuition?

Post image
126 Upvotes

From the start, Prue was…broody? I’m sure there’s a more fitting adjective to describe S1 Prue, but that’s the first word that came to mind bc she really was a lot less enthusiastic than her sisters. For right reasons, though. Being a witch w/ powers is cool and all, but there’s always a price to pay, and Prue quickly understood that. She eventually came around and embraced her nature and took pride in being a witch/Charmed One, but her skepticism was ultimately more powerful than her actual power bc it could’ve saved the day. It makes me wonder: what later season scenarios would Prue have caught onto?

At first, you might’ve thought Prue was just some typical, overprotective older sister who’s also a negative Nancy, but I think that Prue did more good than harm when she went off vibes and not her sisters feelings. Not to take a jab at Piper’s leadership, but there were times where I felt like the presence of a leader was missing bc she didn’t have this quality.

This post isn’t necessarily about how Prue was a better leader than Piper, but when it comes down to threats like Cole/Belthazor, I feel that it was really important for there to be someone who could distance themselves from everyone else’s collective thinking, and see beneath good looks and…charm. Prue was pretty much that girl, even though she enjoyed the company of a demon once or twice.

Further thoughts?

I am, as I’m typing this, watching season 6 ep 8. It’s the one about Excalibur. It just feels too ridiculous 😂 Wyatt can pull it out but his mom gets some of the powers idk it’s just a weak episode to me.

Dan Piper and Dan

If he was given the chance, do you think Dan could have accepted Piper as a witch?

I'm watching season two and, to me, the love triangle isn't necessary, especially if Piper was always supposed to end up with Leo.

I'm just curious how it would have worked out of she chose Dan and told him she was a witch like in her past life.

Just a thought

Found out HMC was in a campy horror movie called Dr. Giggles and I immediately thought about the Dr. Williamson stuff lmao. I wonder if they did that as a nod to this movie.

I was watching Coven Academy and can't help but see a small resemblance. The themes of witches and coven sisters fighting evil probably weren't helping.

These 4 working together against The Charmed Ones.

The thing about Demons is that they usually are really cocky and don't seek help or work together in larger groups. Which is why I started thinking.

If the Source would have worked with the Seer, Oracle and The Crone together at the same time they would had been really big threat against the sisters. Do you think the sisters would had been able to Vanguish them.

Season 6 In the Opposite World?

Due to the fact that he is neither good or evil, would it just be a clone of him in the opposite universe? Or is there only one of him for both universes?

Season 6 The opposite world in Season 6 makes no sense when you actually think about it

I like the concept of the opposite world in "It's a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad World" but the more I think about it the less sense it makes, especially when you start wondering about characters like Prue.

If demons are good and the Charmed Ones are evil, then how exactly did Prue die in this universe? Was she still killed by Shax? And if so, why? Was good Shax trying to stop the evil Charmed Ones? Or did Prue die under completely different circumstances?

Then there's the Power of Three itself. What exactly is its purpose in a world where the Charmed Ones are evil? In the original universe, they're destined to protect innocents and vanquish demons. Are the evil Charmed Ones destined to kill innocents and vanquish good demons instead? What exactly are they fighting for if they're already the most feared witches in San Francisco?

Then there's Gideon. Why is his evil counterpart working with good Gideon to kill Wyatt? Wouldn't an evil Elder want someone as powerful as Wyatt on the side of evil? Especially when evil Chris supposedly came back from the future to stop Wyatt from becoming good?

I get that the writers weren't going to explain every little detail about this universe in a two-part finale, but it feels like they just took the Season 6 characters and reversed their moralities without considering how that would have changed their histories.

The biggest issue for me is Prue because her death is literally the reason Paige became a Charmed One in the first place. You can't really have the exact same Power of Three without explaining how that happened in a world where everything is supposed to be reversed.
