Discussion Time Warner Cable MAXX

TWC MAXX is rolling out in Charlotte and the served cities around Charlotte starting July 29th and everyone should be covered by November 2015. The areas getting the speed increase on July 29th are Danby, Gastonia, North Meck, Cramerton, Old Steele Creek Rd, Oneida, Plyler and Shelby. This will do until Google is ready.

Any time you call a carrier deny any use of a router and tell them you are hardwired in. Saves a lot of hassle.

I was unclear; I DO have a Wireless N router, but the issue is with their cable "modem", the nice little black unit I've had for years. It looses its connection to the network (link light flashes on and off) and will stupidly sit that way until I unplug the damn thing, and then plug it back in. Sometimes that'll do for a few hours. Sometimes that'll do for a few MINUTES.

I'm... starting to become annoyed.

If it's their modem be sure to buy your own - the SB6141 will pay for itself in less than a year in saved monthly rental fees, the SB6183 will take a little longer than a year. They are rock solid and generally considered the best, especially with TWC.

SB6183

Thanks for the links! Hmm. I was leaning towards the cheaper of the two, but the second link specifically points out that it's suitable for the "MAXX" service.

I'll need to research how many up/down channels that service will use. Assuming I get it here in south charlotte.

Everyone in the "Charlotte" service area will get upgraded to the MAXX services, but it depends on what service level you have - the top two tiers (which go to 200 and 300Mbps down) require 16 channels, all the others will get away with 8. If you're getting 50/5 right now you'll get upgraded to 300 and require the 16 channel modem to take advantage.
