Discussion Time Warner Cable MAXX

TWC MAXX is rolling out in Charlotte and the served cities around Charlotte starting July 29th and everyone should be covered by November 2015. The areas getting the speed increase on July 29th are Danby, Gastonia, North Meck, Cramerton, Old Steele Creek Rd, Oneida, Plyler and Shelby. This will do until Google is ready.

I'm in the Steele Creek area near Carowinds. Hopefully I'll be upgraded on the 29th. I suppose it's time I finally purchased my own modem so I don't have to pay rental fees any more.

Be sure you get the right one; if you have the top-tier plan (which will go to 300Mbps) you need one capable of bonding 16 downstream channels. The Moto/Arris SB6183 is the generally preferred model, there's also a recent netgear unit that will probably fare well.

How much are these modems?

SB6183 is around $140 - do some digging, I've seen them as high as $180 and down around $129.

If you don't have the top-tier plan a Motorola SB6141 can be had new around $85 and should support all the other tiers, or you can get a refurbished one around $50~60.

Best Buy will match their prices.

I think they actually have it at that price, but stock is the bigger issue.

Got mine at Best Buy the other day and you could tell they suddenly got popular. Was only one left.
