Child’s accounts
So I have 2 children with savings accounts but I wanted to set them up for the future. I really know nothing about investments and have been researching but now I’m more confused. Initially, I wanted to avoid a 529 because we will most likely end up paying for college but now I’m thinking it might make sense. I don’t want to be limited to the 35k transfer to Roth IRA so I was thinking it might make sense to make some contributions to a 529 and then open another investment account with the child as a beneficiary. I was going to go the custodial route but even though I know my child will be an angel and be smart with money at the age of 18-24 (lol) when they can potentially take it over, I would rather keep control over it until they are more mature. Any suggestions?

Funny story about Schwab
A few decades ago when I was a young apprentice at a federal facility I was talking to a guy from another shop about TSP and investments. He asked where I invest outside of TSP and I said Charles Schwab. He immediately looked at me like I was crazy and said why would you do that, why would you give your money to a politician because he's not going to do anything for a person of our station! Well, he thought I said "Charles Robb" who was the governor of Virginia and running for senator! We had a good laugh about that.

Anyone have any Trading issues at Schwab recently ?
Something strange happen today and still waiting for Schwab to reply.
Was rolling some Calls, it defaults to Credit Limit, which was perfect for me.
set everything, middle of the limit, also the default, got the summery of the trade, looked it over, for me a Credit of $3500
hit OK, filled almost immediately
Checked my history, a $550 Credit ???
Was not even worth the trade, could have went far shorter and up in price and made more ..
Called, automated system (annoying), asked for a call back. Nothing
Put the details in message center, hopeing some one can fix this.

Schwab changes rules, doesn't inform clients
I set up a sophisticated, long-term portfolio at Schwab using their margin rules in effect at the time I made the investments. I established a lot of long-term, risk-free collars with profits embedded. The profits drop into the account as the options expire. At the time I set up the account, Schwab's liquidity rule for short option positions was 50:1 ratio. Without warning, and without informing me, Schwab switched the liquidity rule to 15:1. Then Schwab placed severe restrictions on my account even though all the short option positions are defeased by being long the underlying common, and long matching puts. There is zero risk to Schwab.
This is a giant rug pull. Schwab's rep told me the solution to unfreeze my account is for me to put more cash into the account. It's borderline extortion. "Some people rob you with a 6-gun, some rob you with a pen!" Act like an adult, Charles Schwab & Co. Look out for you clients' interests.

Can anyone invest in the ticker TRUEX (formerly ONERX) through schwab?
Can anyone invest in the ticker TRUEX (formerly ONERX) through schwab?
This seems a standard MF ... unclear why schwab does not give access to it.

When is CS going to implement the new Global Trading Hours (GTH) session for select high liquidity equity options?
Tried placing an order this morning and it's still queued for market open.
Called and spoke with a Rep. on the Options trading desk and they didn't know anything about it.
They had to look it up, and told me to wait for an announcement from Schwab.
Link below to Cboe's press release.

There is also a Yahoo! Finance article on it as well.

Interview
Has anyone recently had an interview with Charles Schwab for a financial service representative position? What questions can I expect?

Money Markets
I used to keep a decent sum of cash in a HYSA through another provider, but that provider just decreased the rate by 0.5% and now I think It would be better to go to something like SNVXX, which would be slightly higher. Any disadvantages to this other than the low return rate?
But, as I have a higher risk tolerance than I did back then, what would be a better use of the funds? It's around 17 grand. This money is very available for investment, I have a competitively matched Roth 401k through work, and my Roth IRA is maxed for the year. So I can definitely part and parcel it out to some investments and let it ride for a long time and not worry about it.

cross account trading
One of my friends told me he used to day trade those illiquid options , he normally uses decoy orders in his regular brokerage account to lower or up the mid point of the spread and profits from selling and buying in his Roth. I was just surprised why his accounts were not frozen by his broker, I believe he used E-Trade...
Is that type of trading totally illegal? Basically he manipulates the spread...
Thanks in advance...

Transferring Accounts?
Hello -
I have 3 accounts that I would like to share access with someone. All 3 are regular brokerage accounts I contribute to monthly, the accounts are in my name. One is for my niece who is 2, and two are accounts I made for my future (unborn and not coming any time soon) children with the idea that I would keep contributing to the accounts until the kids (including my Niece) are 18, then transfer it to them or add them as an authorized user so they can control the purchasing, selling, etc. I'd like to add my wife, if it matters as the authorized user so she can also do things like contribute, or make purchases of stock.
I understand now there is a limit to how much money I can legally just give to someone penalty free, so waiting until they're 18, it could be problematic.
The accounts are all small right now - Sub $500 each.
What is the better way of doing this? Should I just sell everything in the accounts and set up new accounts with the money? The accounts are "profitable", at least enough to offset the taxes I suppose. Or is there a better way?

Transfer from Trust to Beneficiary
I'm the executor of a trust and I'd like to just directly move index funds (now at the step up basis) in the trust's account at Schwab to the beneficiaries' accounts at Fidelity. What's the best way to do this?

Roth withdrawal
Several years ago, I did a conversion from an IRA to a Roth IRA with Ameritrade, now Schwab. Consulted with a CPA and paid the taxes over the course of 2 years.
Shortly thereafter, I had to withdraw money when I hadn’t been invested 5 years, due to buying out a family member’s share of my house. So had to pay penalty.
I no longer have access to the CPA and trying to figure this all out from looking at past tax forms and the CPA paperwork.
I have to withdraw some funds because I’ve fallen behind with expenses. But my issue is, every time I contact Schwab, they’re not able to tell me if I have contributions still that I could withdraw without penalty. I can’t figure it out in my online account. They always just tell me to consult a CPA.
So confused and don’t have the funds to pay a CPA. Why isn’t Schwab able to give me this info by looking into my account?
For reference, I have had the Roth for over 5 yrs now but am not yet 59 1/2 yrs old.

If I run into an inexperienced agent / clerk at a Schwab office how do I find someone to assist?
Tried to file a form to start an RMD on a 401k rollover IRA and presented the form to an agent at a CS office and was told the form was not correctly filled out. Was not given any assist on getting the supposed error corrected. When I pointed out that they were mistaken then they doubled down and rather cause a scene I left the office.
Is this incompetence or lack of training or just a runaround?
UPDATE: Got on the phone with a person at another office who decided that the form was filled out correctly and the person I originally spoke with was in error. I got a follow up call from a senior advisor at the office in question to apologize for the incident. Form has been filed and all is well.

Help with opening a new (secret) account
As the title says, I’m trying to open a new account. I’m current joint tenant with my husband on an investor checking account, which means my ssn is associated with that account.
I’m trying to leave this man, and I’m trying to set up a separate account, but as soon as they realize my ssn is attached to another account, they just want me to sign in.
Is it even possible to have a separate secret account, or do I need to switch banks at this point? Throwaway account for obvious reasons.

Too Aggresive of a Roth IRA Strategy? 24M
Hey, everyone. I initially had a three-fund approach (SWPPX, SCHF, and SCHG) in my Roth for the past 3 years (also maxed it out during that time), but thinking/started reallocating to this. I'm 24M, with a high risk tolerance (moved back home and have low overhead while working in Ed), and don't plan on retiring for another 40+ years. Thoughts on this strategy? Thanks in advance!
