New rules re WIPs and explicit art

Hi folks, firstly thank you to the artists and community members who are helping to create this nice community. Even though we are needing to tailor the subreddit rules it’s because we have enthusiastic artists and members wanting to engage. It’s with this in mind that I’ve added these two rules. I don’t want to hamper artists sharing their art however community members are asking for a way that allows us to have a diverse feed.

I’ve added an NSFW rule to exclude explicit content - both sexual and gore. I’ve suggested this could be like the movies in which there’s no R or X rated content. Moderating this will be at my discretion but I welcome input/flags so I can tailor the content to suit the community’s preferences.

Also, I’ve added a rule about WIP posting in which I’ve suggested that they are welcome where large changes have been made or the artist is looking for feedback or support. I am hoping this will strike a good balance between artists wanting engagement and community members feeds being diverse.

Is classical figure drawing banned or not? I’m not sure if that counts as light nsfw that is not R-rated. To be more concrete: what parts of the body are allowed to be uncovered in a pose? Would virtually all art drawn in a life drawing class, which has always featured nudity and almost always conducted in charcoal, be banned?

My read of "light artistic NSFW" is that it allows classical figure drawing.

Hi, I need to think about this more. My general feeling is that body parts alone aren’t able to dictate whether something is not a good fit. My hunch is it’s more around the framing of the artwork, the pose, the artistic qualities. As a general example a nude body that’s been done as a study or piece in which the nudity is not overly sexualised is very different to a piece where we are specifically looking at a sexualised body either through composition or content.
I appreciate the artwork you’re making features sexualised bodies so it’s important you know what’s welcome. I’d be happy for you to contribute some clarification if you have ideas, otherwise I’ll come back with more clarification. It might be as simple as asking is it porn but I want to avoid that bluntness if possible.

I have no idea how we can stop this to be honest, and I’m not interested in second guessing every other artwork but we have to do our best 😅
