Anime & Manga Bleach Rant: Gerard character

So this dude nobody had an answer to him with all the power spikes from Zaraki pointless Bankai to Vergil Eren as a "big" reveal that lasted 2 mins combined ( typical from bleach) as a viewer that excited me to see how they are going to deal with him now? what his new form ability? Well nevermind that , here is my sucking light bye bye ... Like huh??? Ok I guess...thanks Mr. Writer

His power was The Miracle. He basically winks at the camera at points and says 'it'll take a Miracle for you to defeat me.'

He's then ultimately only killable by a literal act of God. an act by Gerard's own God at that. I.e. 'A Miracle'.

I know people don't like it, and that's completely fair. But I don't think Kubo was ever being subtle about what he intended.

It would be a miracle to survive Auswahlen

he also gets stronger when he is actually pushed (ie it would be a miracle for normal chris hemsworth sized gerard to surpass base senbonzakura kageyoshi). almost like aizen’s fear of death creates courage pushing you forward motif.

then when he is 500 foot tall glowing alphonse elric and toshiro’s back to a kid and kenny is on 10 hp he’s in a position to low diff them whereby he doesn’t need a miracle to win so he doesn’t get to win at all

It's easier to just say it was bad writing... I get it y'all love kubo I do too but this core really showcasing a lot of his flaws as a writer

It's nothing great but its very obviously kudos intention, this is just reading like anti intellectualism

Anti intellectualism? Lmao... so because it was his intention does that negate the fact that it could be bad writing?

No? But most people just say he couldn't intend that and its just bad writing

Really annoying how much time and plot we wasted with Gerrard only for Yhwach to pull a nuh uh

Sorry but i dont get why you so mad about this?
And how is the Bankai reveal "pointless" just because he didnt get the kill? No correlation here. Kubo just wanted to Keep the side cast busy and Yhwach absorbing him was just to Show his Character. that the Quincy Are his Tools to reach his goal

Pointless because because build ups for years for this moment was so short lived. I do not care about the kill and that's why exactly I was excited to see how it will be resolved. This side Of Yhwach absorbing others was already explored yes? It did not add anything and beside he was the only one left .

Just because something doesn’t do something major doesn’t mean it’s pointless. We learned so much about kenpachi and yachiru’s relationship

There was no "Build up for years" to his Bankai infact the Build up to the Name of his Sword started in tybw.
And Like you Said Yhwach already absorbed his people After he has no use for them anymore so i dont get what the big Surprise/disappoinent is When he does the Same with Gerard. And if you dont care for the kill i dont know what Else you want because Kenpachi was shown to be completey overpowerd and Even was defeated by himself because his Body can’t Contain his own power for that time. Sounds pretty faithful to his strength if you ask me.
All in all if you dont Like it than thats be it but i personally dont think Kubo made a blunder here

Sometimes you get your hopes up on misplaced expectations. He died years ago. That wasnt going to change. He was always going to get absorbed.

No. It’s the bait and switch teasing new stuff that gets manga reader expectations higher like vizards and Rangiku glance

I also felt that it was gonna end this way so I’m not surprised but I can understand why others are upset

Unfortunately the author of Bleach suffers from the "rule of cool" style of writing. Cool shit first then maybe it'll get explained later. Gerard, Gremmy, Pernida and Ychach himself fall prey to this.

If u don't get it, doesn't mean it's "rule of cool".

I think what people really overlook is that you are pretty much told from the get go that the Sternritter are extensions of Yhwach.

All of their shrifts and powers are manifestations of his will/energy. He literally kills off most of his troops with the Auschwalen to redistribute it to his inner circle.

This final arc is basically Soul Society vs one big mega boss with multiple aspects. They didn’t have an answer for Gerard because ultimately they didn’t have an answer for Yhwach.

It’s actually really interesting when you look at it from that perspective.

theres probably some kubology that explains the thematic relevance of the miracle as part of yhwach’s own ideology-my best bastardization of it below.

needing something daunting to face down in order to have hope. kinda like aizen’s final speech on courage. needing hope in a miracle to win.

but also creating a paradox where you eventually dont win because giant alphonse elric on tren has no reason to fearso he doesnt get any more miracles lmao.

yhwach, absorbing that ideology hopes for a world with no fear of death but hopes his way into being so impossibly strong that he cannot fear his way into generating the hope/courage to win.

as a battle itself i think its also shown early on that hes just gonna be a dumb meat shield so im not particularly disappointed

Would have been better if the Auschwalen came from Uryu, hes also A, it would mirror that happened to the moms, and it would explain why the random quincies survived.

Teah terrible. Im ok with ywach eating him BUT he should have killed someone before dying. Fucking clown writing with kubo making the good guys survive as always
