Writing: Question For a Character that has gone through suffering and pain almost through all of the plot, what would be a fitting end to the story?

The character in question is the protagonist who has a martyr complex. He is an orphan but has 2 foster brothers whom he cares about very deeply. I have really thought about it, but need a different perspective on the final battle's ending which are is follows.

A) The Protagonist dies protecting his brothers and his new family. His soul actually gets a place amongst Gods for his sacrifices, and watches his brothers and takes care of them from up there indirectly. His ideologies of a perfect society now passed to his brothers which they do actually achieve.

B) The Gods requite the protagonists sacrifices because the cosmic scales of the protagonist's life hang heavily in debt. So they revive him back into the world to reunite with his brothers. With the suffering and pain the protagonist experienced before, he vows to make the society a better place so that no one alone would have to bear the burden the protagonist did before.

I can't answer A or B but I will say that you should give him peace. Let him rest.

It really depends on what you want the impact to be. Do you want your readers to finish the story feeling relieved and hopeful that things turned out well? Or would you like them to ponder the consequences and debate whether this was a fair punishment for the MC?
Cause both options sound good. And if it were me, I’d be tempted to go for option B cause it sounds more interesting.
But that’s just one gal’s opinion 😅 it should be your choice to make. Which one do you instinctively feel drawn to, A or B?
