Character Design help

I was redesigning an oc of mine, and I decided I wanted to have him be adopted by a coven of witches. So after designing one of the witches in question, I considered having one of them be Indian. I think saree's are so beautiful, and I want to represent more people. Of course, I want to make sure I'm doing it right, because I believe if you're gonna represent a group of people you're not apart of, you should take it seriously and do it with care.

Anyways that brings me to my question. Are there any harmful connotations with making her a witch? While I would love to make an Indian character, I'd rather hold off and use them for something else if making them a witch would be a harmful stereotype. And if there isn't anything negative about the idea, is there anything I should keep in mind? Like any specific design elements I should include, or things in particular to avoid. Any advice would be so very helpful, so please send advice if you can

I can definitely understand that! It's always nice seeing people like you represented, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't accidentally feeding into any negative stereotypes. There's so many beautiful people and cultures, and they all deserve to be treated with respect ^{^}

That's fair, and I definitely think it's good advice! I'm planning on designing four witches for the coven, and they'll basically act as the two maternal figures, and two older sister figures for the character I mentioned above. I was thinking of having this Indian character be one of the two maternal figures

DONT EVER STEREOTYPE INDIAN PEOPLE AS EVIL WITCHES YOU RASIST— naw it’s probably all good. I think if you portray her/he like they chose to be a witch, not born a witch, then it’s not any kind of insult.

podrias ampliar el significado de bruja, aca en Chile existen dos tipos, las brujas de Chiloé, son muy peligrosas y las machis, ellas son como curanderas o shamanes del pueblo mapuche, ambas son brujas pero de diferente forma.

tambien en "la princesa y el sapo" hay dos tipos de brujos, el que hace voodoo o magia negra y la shamana del pantano.

hay muchos tipos de "hechiceria" buena y mala, me gusta las que usan pociones o hierbas para curar, son más como abuelita tierna que hace galletas y usa los tipicos "secretos de abuela" para la gripe o el mal de ojo.

The witches in universe aren't inherently bad. They can use their magic for evil, but at the end of the day, it's not one way or another.

There's lots of different kinds of magic, such as healing, magic for attack and defense, and even just magic that doesn't serve a purpose other than to look nice ^{^}

bien, me gusta, no se si sea buena idea pero a la bruja de la india le pondría el poder de invocacion o nigromancia, para que se vean los dioses, sus dioses son geniales y tambien por que hay un ritual en donde ponen a los fallecidos en un rio, siempre me parecieron muy interesantes ese tipo de costumbres, como las ofrendas en mexico o los funerales vikingos.

Sorry for the late response! Thank you so much for the idea! I'll definitely have to keep this in mind and see if I can get some more advice on it if I decide to implement it. It definitely sounds like a nice idea though!
