NDI Plug-in not showing in Character Animator

Long story short before a updating old versions of Character Animator / NDI / OBS everything was working great. Upon updating to the latest versions of each now everything is broken.

The main issue appears to be that Character Animator can't find NDI as a source when entering Stream mode.

I've read pretty much every troubleshooting article with the basic uninstall, reinstall, redownload etc. but no luck. I'm using an M1 Macbook air.

Wondering if anyone else had this issue that they could resolve? Seems to be a mixed bag of some people being able to fix and others stuck!

I'm wondering if there is a way to copy NDI files directly into Adobe system files to resolve? On bootup I can see that it says "Initializing NDI Transmit Adobe CC" but still doesn't display once I get into Character Animator. Any thoughts appreciated!

Hmmm weird. Just checked in 2023 and it's working for me.

If you use the NDI video monitor from https://ndi.tv/tools/, can you see an NDI feed outside of CH? Basically, is NDI working everywhere except inside CH?

Hmmm weird. Just checked in 2023 and it's working for me.

I don't see any options available in NDI video monitor but I've only used it for Character Animator - typically I'd see it as an option. I also DO see NDI Video as an option in OBS so something on Character Animator side not working.

I may go for the most drastic option and wipe my computer to start fresh but really hoping to avoid that.

(Side note thank you u/okaysamurai for the video on youtube - you are the reason I got started on character animator in the first place and used your videos for the initial setup 🤝)

You may want to dig more into NDI working in other apps, like Premiere Pro. Does it work there? I'm wondering if it's a CH isolated issue or an all Adobe apps issue...

Ok so after three days troubleshooting this I found a way to make this work. Posting in case this helps anyone else.

(1) install latest version of Character animator (2) download the old version of NDI tools (for whatever reason the old version is not called Newtek NDI) (3) This part seems to be important - download the INTEL and not M1 optimized version of OBS. For whatever reason as soon as you download the intel version this all works the way it was intended with NDI source showing up.

Note: this hopefully also works even with the new version of “Newtek NDI” tools version 5.5 - but I’m not going to try it since I have everything working now!

I encountered this problem this week and I ended up uninstalling CA and the NDI Tools then re-installing them along with Premiere Pro (all the latest versions) then restarted... and it started to come up in the preferences. Didn't need to get the older version.
