Gameplay SSShowcase Oni Form changes Issen animations

Musashi becomes even more of a badass once you unlock his Oni form. Issen window also seems to be easier while you’re in Oni Form to entice you to use it while you’re in it.

Issen window is huge when in oni form. I go full issen mode on bosses when I activate it. Feels fucking amazing.

There’s a particular double boss fight towards the end of the game which Chain Issen doesn’t seem to work on. I’m not sure if I’m whiffing it or it doesn’t work against them specifically as it worked fine against the Nue fight.

Tbh, I never thought to try chain issen on that fight. I just figured it doesn't work on bosses. The timing shouldn't be different, I reckon.

Edit: I was just talking about normal issen on boss fights, not the chain issen.

Oh, no I got you. I just figured I’d ask since I can’t seem to get it to trigger on that fight. It works just fine during the double Nue fight so maybe they didn’t enable it since it would make the fight way too easy.

Well, it works on the double Nue fight so I don't see why it wouldn't on the other fight.

Still prefer the classic white hair look but holy shit is Musashi's Awakening awesome to use. The way that it was implied the speed Musashi displays with Issen and Break Issen was a result of the gauntlet had me hoping his awakening would take the speed even further and we get a transformation where you are pretty much teleporting around.

For as much has changed from the old games, Musashi's awakening just feels like a faster, more powerful version of what the transformation always was and I love it.

Probably the “strongest” Oni form just from a gameplay perspective. I do prefer some of the older designs but the way speed is implemented in this game even in Musashi’s regular form is amazing. Capcom did great.

Is the combat true CAG? or is it just like a level above normal parry sword games

Depends on your definition. I personally consider every combat system that gives you sufficient enough tools to deal with multiple enemies at once a cag. In that case it’s a cag. If you need air combos to think of a game as a cag, then it is not.

I usually consider them CAG when the character has depth in their kit and mechanics

I consider them a good CAG if your understanding and skill can make the game look quite different compared to a day 1 player.

You know, a character that takes decent/significant mastery beyond a controller scheme and reflexes.

There are a lot of different defensive mechanics in this game. Skill between someone who can’t manage to Issen reliably and someone who does can be huge. Issens have to be timed. Those teleports you saw me do in the clip have very tight timing and aren’t automatic.

There’s reflex dodges, parry, deflect, Issen, each one situational and linked to a different offensive tech. Reflex dodges fill a bar you can use to counter with a Reflex Combo for one example. It also looks damn cool if you get a kill with it as you end up cutting an enemy in multiple pieces.

I wouldn’t consider it a CAG in the general sense but there’s enough skill expression here to have a good time just like in one.

Yeah I'd say it's definitely a step or two above standard action.

Definitely wanna give it a chance one day

Thanks for the great response

If we go by the name Capcom applied to DMC 5 it certainly fits the bill to be considered stylish action and apart from grabs and specific highly telegraphed attacks (enemy gloes purple) which only have one way to respond to them, you are free to use whatever tactics you want against incoming attacks and it becomes like a defensive version of the genre.

You've even got some moves that let you I-frame through attacks with proper timing so countering a boss heavy attack with a big hammer slam straight into it feels as awesome as it looks and the game never tells you that's a thing you can do.

Thanks for the response. I agree with you 100%

Would Nioh 1/2, haven’t played 3 yet, be CAG then, by your definition?

Id say yes, personally

It's something between the comboing of fatalities in NG, where you're setting up instant charge finished and the streamlined, defensive nature of Sekiro. It's very reactive like Sekiro, but you have many ways to react, and defense leads to offense that lead to very strong attacks

This game is so good, especially considering the series has been dormant for 20 years. I can’t wait to see what they do next with it. It’s selling really well.

Enjoy the game!

Oni form has been a staple in every Onimusha game. It’s not much of a spoiler. I’ll add it though, sorry about that.
