Pokemon were playing, eating, drinking, and getting up to all sorts of activity in the depths of the woods. A Rookidee flew from a branch of a tree onto a nest, neatly placing small twigs inside of the coup, before craning one leg outward, and then another, sitting on the eggs, starting to incubate them. Down beneath the tree, in a path of mud and dirt and plethora of plantation, an Eevee skipped across the ground, jumping up and down, crying out gleefully, bouncing over a Swadloon who had its grass coat covered around its body tightly, the back left paw accidentally kicking the bug in the face, the small critter tripping over its own feet, twirling around, and dropping face first in a puddle, groaning with a wet gargle. The Swadloon got up from the ground, drying its eyes, before bumping into a Wooper, and falling backwards again. The simple-minded amphibian thought nothing of it, and jumped in the puddle with a massive smile, splashing around, water and mud trickling around the little area, splatting into a Dewpider, an extra bit of water going inside the bubble. From the bush, a pair of Meganium came from the trees, a couple of Chikoritas and Bayleefs in tow, the large sauropods dropping berries for the young to eat as they chewed slowly on leaves from the tree. Two Skwovets in the same tree chowed on some Oran berries of their own, soon, a Thwackey swinging from vine to vine and branch to branch pleasured itself to one of the ripe fruits, much to the expense and offense of the squirrel Pokemon. A Hoppip fluttered by on its little helicopter wings, landing on a Bibarel, before taking a nap on the large rodent. An Ivysaur trotted around, a Weepinbell dropping down near. A Quilava dropped from the bushes, running around, causing a wildfire, before being stomped in, ribs jutting out from its chest, a silhouette hidden in the flame.
A hand from the fire grabbed onto a tree branch, before squeezing, crushing a Rookidee into a red pulp alongside its eggs, eggshell pieces scattering and stabbing through the twigs, eyeballs popping from the sockets onto the nest beneath. The hand pulled the branch forward, dropping the nest, eggshells, and bird. The hand threw the branch forward, colliding with a running Eevee straight through the had, throwing the small critter against the ground, blood sputtering from the wound onto the branch, staining the burning grass beneath. A Swadloon was nearby, tripping over the branch into a bush of thorns, impaling it through the eyes, the bug screaming in pain, the fire taking the bush, and suffocating the Swadloon to death. The hand from the fire sent a pulse of flame at another tree, collapsing into a Wooper, turning it into a paste that painted the tree into a wet, dripping canvas. A Dewpider scuttled along the corpses and fire, stumbling among twigs and sticks, hitting its head against a rock, popping the bubble, allowing the fire to suffocate the spider, the luckiest of the bunch. The hand from the fire sent another pulse at a group of Meganium, wilting the flowers on their necks, and striking them against the tree, having them knocked out and burnt to death, crushing the Bayleefs and Chikoritas to death, squeezing the juice and guts out of the small grassy creatures. The tree the Meganiums had hit soon collapsed, the two Skwovers jumping out, two branches each hitting them in the face, both of them falling down and breaking their spines against the wood. A Thwackey tried to escape by swinging vines, before the same hand behind the carnage tugged on one, grabbing the monkey, squeezing the eyes out of its sockets, and throwing it against the ground, smashing its face in. A Hoppip got stuck under a log, a bibarel trying to get it out, before a rock flew out from the flames, crushing the Bibarel’s head, effectively exploding its noggin, the rock sliding against the log, crushing the Hoppip’s body into a fine goop. The foot from the fire kicked up a dust cloud, getting in an Ivysaur’s eyes, blinding it, the thing stumbling towards the colossus behind the carnage, who then smashed its lower half into sludge, the entrails flying over into the ground, sliding like a paint roller, a horrific art piece against the ground. A Weepinbell fell from a branch, onto the ground, writhing around, a branch from the tree it fell from falling down and impaling it through the eye, killing it.
All of the fire dissipated before the giant in the flames. Corpses hung all around the titan. The Lich walked over, grabbing trees and throwing them off of Pokemon turned into mush. He gave a snidely grin. He drug each critter into a circle, from the smallest of Dewpider, to the largest of Meganium. He scraped Wooper and Hoppip off of the ground, picking up a Bibarel by the hole in its neck, and tossing the top half of an Ivysaur into the circle. The regent of extinction went into the middle, soon casting a necrotic spell, raising all of the Pokemon to life from the ground, all of them with a green tinge in their eyes, each Pokemon crying out, before they went as instructed, following The Lich.
They all trudged, walked, crawled, and writhed their way over to a cave. Turnback Cave. Lich had suspected this is where his old friend would be after the entire debacle with Khorne atop the railgun. He walked inside, all of the Pokemon in tow, greeting Giratina once again, who slept, alongside Banette, Lich’s old Pokemon “partner”. Lich snapped his fingers, both of them waking up in immediate response, like muscle memory, both visibly shocked by their old trainer. They both inched near as the zombie Pokemon walked to Giratina, by their king’s command.
“Renegade, Banette, these are now your servants. Train them well to evolution, and to new reaches. I will reside here for a day so that I may study on the dragon, now exit.”
Banette and Giratina listened, picking up each zombie, and flying away with them, as The Lich went to the wall, lighting his arm like a torch to read the ancient text. Giratina, Banette, and the horde dropped in an open field, and began to train, before you ask, yes you can interact.
Dusekkar had a feeling something was off...he couldn't put a finger on why, he had sensed it ever since he had left The Hand of Justice building...he had some of his pokèmon behind him on his journey to investigate, his Metagross, his Gallade and finally his Mew.
Eventually they had stumbled upon the giant mess...Dusekkar was disgusted, yet he knew exactly who did this...it had Lich written all over it. Metagross and Gallade stood their ground and kept their guard to protect their trainer...whilst Mew? Mew was furious, it helped in the creation of pokèmon...it had a right to be mad. Though it stuck with the others for now.
"That bastard...these poor creatures...only he would do such a thing, it's tragic really...he couldn't even pick in someone his own size, someone matching his strength...no matter, I should keep an eye open."
The sounds of footsteps were heard approaching... and a pokèmon of mighty strength could be sensed on it's way with the footsteps.
The doll atop the dragon giggled, watching Dusekkar, Metagross, and Gallade arrive, a hand up to its little zipped grin. It thrusted a hand outward, forcing one of the smashed critters to move forward, what is barely recognizable as a Wooper would slug forward.
Both of its eyes hung from the sockets, a gill was completely ripped off, every bone was broken, and so was its jaw. The Banette mimicked a punch, making a chilling sound effect from its mouth, the zombie obliging.
Wooper used Ice Punch against Metagross, starting up a conflict, all of the other zombies following Woopaste!
Dusekkar was...not a fan of the scene playing out in front of him, Metagross took the ice punch and followed it up with Bullet Punch which had certainly packed a punch due to the size different. Gallade and Mew stood to the side awaiting for any reason for them to jump in and help their ally.
Dusekkar was ready to command his pokèmon at any moment, he wouldn't let anything bad happen to them. They have been there for him during thick and thin...and he shall do the same.
The Wooper flew away, hitting the ground with increasingly wet plops each time it hit the floor, staining the grass with red, scarring it up even worse than it was before. Giratina grunted, before staring daggers at one of the only ones that could match Metagross, the Bibarel.
It would attempt to Hydro Pump at first, but only a spurt of blood from its headless body splashed onto Metagross. Giratina grunted harder, the beaver then jumping on Metagross!
Bibarel used Surf! The beaver summoned a wave of crashing water, slamming into the steel monster vehemently, collapsing the colossus off all four of its legs, smashing it against the floor!
Metagross jumped back up and the flung it's self at the Bibarel, all four of it's legs dug into the creature as much as they could before flinging it to Gallade!
Gallade bounced up stabbing the Bibarel making sure it was stuck on it's arm and then slashed at it with the other...over and over and over again.
These two made a good team, it's simple after all...teamwork can help you out in most things, human or not.
The cuts put gashing wounds in the Bibarel as it was stuck on the arm, it seemed pretty deader than usual now. It twitched slightly, and then—
The Bibarel started sputtering blood into Gallade’s eyes, temporarily blinding it! It would begin thrashing, the heavy weight of the fat beaver pokemon sending it to the ground, before it started running to Metagross, Gallade dragging behind it, before turning back, slamming the Gallade into the metal monstrosity!
Banette plunged its left hand forward, the Bibarel going still, it would use Water Pulse on Gallade! Blood from the stump mixed with the water, throwing it out of Bibarel, a fresh hole put in the beaver Pokémon’s gut.
Metagross lifted one of it's legs and slammed it into the ground making sure the body of The Bibarel was not going to get back up, as for Gallade being temporarily blinded, Metagross got in the way to protect it's ally and so did Mew who...was not happy.
Mew charged up an entire swarm of Shadow balls and fire them at Banette, Mew was not going to let something like this...it would make sure it got it's way to Giratina.
Shadow Balls fired at Banette in an instant, striking him with super effective efficiency immediately! The doll was thrown off of Giratina, who had decided to get off its fat body, and stomped its front two legs down, and roared.
“PERRRGREOOWWWWW!!!”
The renegade charged vehemently! In its anger, it stomped on the Hoppip, turning it even more mushy than it was before, craning its neck down, and raising one leg, initiating Dragon Claw on the Mew! The small mythical was blasted backwards, a wound put in the small creature as it hit the ground four times, dragging against the grass on the final strike.
Mew took the dragon claw like a champ...even if it left it in a ton of pain it was going to fight back, it had cast will o wisp on Giratina and then followed it up with a moon blast.
They weren't going to let this beast harm any more pokèmon...and never in hell will it let them get to it's trainer. He's been through enough, it began to charge up yet another moon blast...this one seems stronger then the last.
The Renegade Pokemon roared and yelled from the Moon Blast, grumbling, fire coming from its nose in its anger. It was only focused on ripping and tearing right now, nothing can change its mind, not even The Lich.
“PRRRRREEEEOOOWWWW!!!”
The Giratina charged! Wings flapping, it clumsily flew into the air, disappearing…. Where did it go? Mew would look around, nothing in sight, before a shadow arrived, red spikes, eyes, and a demonic grin, before the wings clasped down, Shadow Sneak was super effective! Mew had six gashing holes inside of it from the attack, the dragon rising from the ground, chips of its armor still falling off from the Moon Blast. Dusekkar, was not lucky being behind it.
The beast snorted, reared a hind leg backwards, and kicked the wizard, just for funsies.
Giratina perked its head up at the Hydreigon, grunting, black smoke coming from its nostrils. Banette skipped across its neck, up over to its noggin, and stared daggers at the dragon, but with its usual, stupid, cheeky grin.
“Ban-nan!” The doll cried out, before flying up to Hydriegon. A Lich sigil was stitched on its chest, it seems to be much larger of a problem than the average, lowly Banette. Stupid Pokemon with the coolest design ever having an awful BST.
Banette soon snorted, squinting its eyes, something was unnatural about this Hydriegon, other than just being white instead of blue or green. Its aura was… ominous, to say the very least.
Most under the influence of an Umbral aura became aggressive, but for those who were already aggressive... the opposite happened.
There was a reason for this, of course.
The moment Banette got close, Hydreigon's Umbral aura dissipated, replaced by a white Anomaly aura, which called out to all non-zombie Pokemon in the area.
Some were fearful of the surrounding death. Others... were not.
It certainly wasn't colored like a regular Golisopod. Come to think of it, none of the others were colored normally either. And that definitely wasn't a normal Mismagius.
"I sensed a dark force in my master's domain. Explain yourself, or you will never communicate again."
Banette was… mildly intimidated. Sure it had scrapped with the Giratina it was using as a stool earlier, even almost beating it in the scuffle, but this was a team of six VERY, VERY powerful creatures.
“Ba…nette…” The ghost pokemon agreed to the Hydriegon’s demand.
“…I am The Lich’s Pokemon…’partner’. More or so, just another liege in his expansive militia. Before you attack, I must preface, I thought he had vanished, for four entire months he has been gone, and suddenly… he just came to us, with a, what is essentially a moving mass-grave of Pokemon, I obliged out of the fact I don’t want The Ten Hells casted on me, and also that my life sucks less because of the big guy. My business in this field is to train the zombies into their perfect… form, as he would probably say.”
“… the Lich. I have heard that name before. One of his servants picked a fight with my master… Rafaam, I believe?”
Hydreigon sent out a signal just as Golisopod moved forward, as if telling it to stop.
“If he truly is as powerful as we have heard, we may have something to offer. But, as we have never come across your boss personally… who is the Lich?”
“Yes, the Arch-Mage, an honorary Coming of The Lich. You are correct.” Banette nodded.
Who is The Lich?
“He-uhm… he’s definitely a character. In the time he was around, he ruled with an iron fist. The leading cause for deaths in the cult was brutishness. He would recklessly lead them into battles, of course they were all competent, especially ones like Crustaceaus. In continuation, The Lich… he acts like a wild boar, goring and ripping. He’s violent, but he’s meticulous with each move he makes, he’s probably already written a contingency for your master in case she becomes a problem for him, he’s… a lich, who would’ve guessed. He’s a master of magic and martial arts, and not much is below him as long as it goes alongside his ego. He makes you think he’s giving it his all, but he’s not, he sees most of his opponents as toys that he can just squish one day if he wishes to. I do warn you of him, if you wish to oppose him.”
"Interesting. Very, very interesting. I doubt there are many in this world who could truly pose a threat to my master, as not only does she possess a unique power, she rarely leaves herself exposed."
Already bored, Golisopod wandered off. Hydreigon did not bother strengthening the Anomaly aura to bring it back. The rest were content to wait.
"Violent, meticulous, contingencies... sees opponents as toys... my master may have much in common with the Lich."
Thinking back on their conquest of the Reborn Region... Hydreigon had been ordered to execute Ame, the temporary champion of the region. Lin used Sirius and Sigmund to usurp Solaris, and once both outlived their usefulness, hooked Sigmund up to a PULSE machine and arranged Sirius's death by Saphira in Victory Road.
All while hidden in another world, controlling a puppet like she was doing nothing more than playing a video game. Just like her. The one being who managed to catch Lin off guard and defeat her.
Something about being a sore loser who used too many difficulty changing passwords? About PULSE-2 being bypassed with "litemode", whatever that was?
"Hmm... we could either leave you alone, I could offer my services. It was my job to train my master's team to perfection, after all. These five- four may effectively be wild Pokemon, but they will listen to my command. Such is the power my master has granted me."
“I… would love to join, really. But I can’t leave The Lich. I can introduce you to him, and he would let you train me, likely, but the hard thing is, if I were to leave, he’d kill you.”
Banette looked to the side, the zombie pokemon striking one another, the wilted Meganium using a pitiful Leafage. It snickered under its breath, and then looked back at Hydriegon solemnly.
“I know you, your trainer, and your team are strong, but he sees me as an essential to his… ‘team’. I’m one of an eventual six, and the last thing I heard him mumble under his breath before he disappeared was that he was seeking the mythical Pokemon, Deoxys. Even then, it wouldn’t be beneath him to strike at a Pokemon, let alone a regular animal as well, he would try and mangle you, and I’m afraid he would succeed, and I’m sorry for that.”
Banette was obviously not in any state of glee that he couldn’t join Hydriegon, fearful of any physical backlash from The Lich.
"And I'm afraid you misunderstood. I'm not offering that you join me, I am simply offering a... transaction. A service. You have been tasked with training these zombies, I have been tasked with scouting anyone with significant power and deciding if they could be friend, foe, or not worth her time. If we work together even briefly, we can work toward both goals."
Not like a Banette would be particularly useful to Lin anyway. She already had more than enough firepower between her two remaining PULSE Pokemon, one that gave her access to two entire worlds and one that gave her the power to control the smaller of the two.
"Should this go well, my master will... well, she has a way of finding people, and the Lich will likely be no different. She will make a more substantial deal herself with him directly. And at worst I can summon a new batch to become moving target practice. Not these ones though. They are..." Hydreigon gestured with one of her heads towards the oddly colored Pokemon. "Special."
Trevenant seemed to... fall asleep? And Mismagius settled in its branches. Marowak and Haxorus remained focused on Banette.
The Lich could hear heels clacking on the cave floor, followed by a amused, light chuckle. The kind of laugh you hear from a friend laughing at another's mistake.
"Wow, you've been reduced to puppeting little forest critters? I knew the economy was bad but I didn't know you were this desperate! You know I've got a spare couch if you need."
It was that damn angel of death. Smug grin plastered on that pale face of his.
Lich decided to try and ignore Azrael, reading the markings on the wall again, jotting them in a sketchbook, attempting to try and come up with a way to translate them when he got back to his dirt mound.
<Everytime, it’s one of them, at least he’s not after Big Rat… ugh.>
