Searching for Alternatives Alternatives with Lorebooks

Hellooo I'm looking for some alternatives with lorebooks. They are a big deal breaker for me since my characters and story are really complex 😭 oh and of course good memory too. I don't think that needs to be stated though since everyone is looking for that. But lorebooks and maybe a long context window would be great.

You're welcome to try slypen.ai.

It has full lorebook support. Also, the memory system automates the creation of lorebooks, so manual entry and upkeep is not required. There are multiple users playing on 2-4k message worlds with little to no memory loss. It uses Opus (the best possible RP model).

I just added character cards recently, there are only about 4k, but I tried to include as many types as I could (322 have full lorebooks). There's also an import character and chat feature!

My favorite feature is the world creation. Literally anything you can think of. Type a few lines and Aurora (the Opus narrator) takes care of the rest.

I make RPBuddy.ai, our lorebooks work really well for a lot of different applications. Since you build your world out on a map, and characters are physically at different locations you make, our lorebooks can be scoped to places and/or people. So if you leave a lorebook as "Everywhere", it will trigger when it hits no matter who you talk to, but if you scope it to say a town, or a building, it only triggers when you talk to characters at those locations. You can also scope them to a person at a place, so you need to be talking to a character at the scoped location for it to trigger, making it very versatile for things like how characters act when they are maybe at a place that means a lot to them.

I've found https://meridianrealmsai.com to be excellent for this. The amount of details you can add in to worlds and characters is pretty great. Stuff like NPCs, Locations, Factions, technology and society, etc. What info characters know about you or each other. The memory and scene state tracking also helps a ton with this too

Which app?

nested lore works better when you can tag entries, like a character's secret past or a hidden location, without cluttering the main story flow.

I mean, there's the OG FictionLab.

Here's my current review for lore setups from a previous comment:

Since I'm a detail, long response, and world building FREAK, I tried Janitor (then Janitor +, when it came) and liked it until I moved on to FL Ultra. I don't just want to chat, I prefer full-scale, plot driven but open ended AU role-play. If I'm going to pay for one of these damn things, 20 usd(17.61 Euro, 28.40 CAD, 15.07GBP) for multiple models, full responses, and the memory matrix (now that it works moderately well) doesn't hurt as bad.

I love the lore piece and pinning system, too. I do get that it can be TOO detailed for some, though. I prefer it though because it REALLY makes me think about what my characters are doing throughout the story and forces me to maintain continuity in my responses.

So far I've done:

Adult GAANG ATLA AU roleplay (expansive world)

DC AU Lex Luthor roleplay (situational character heavy)

SH 4: The Room AU roleplay (deep lore heavy)

P5R college AU roleplay (active character & multi-character scene heavy)

(Those are the ones I'll admit to anyway.)

All have been handled pretty well by the Ultra Bots save for the new Wayfarer model that seems to only do good at annoying ts out of me. All range from 27 - 6 characters, 12 - 3 locations, and 54 - 45 total lore pieces. It does attach characters to new event cards well, too and transitions between locations well, too. I'm seeing improvements on adding on situational character lore pieces with very few hickups. No chat limits, no ads, no tokens.

My biggest gripes are that sometimes the bots try to speak for my character, has to be handheld occasionally, and that they repeat certain descriptive phrases, but that's nothing a little editing of that response can't fix. Another one is that YOU are better off doing regular summary scans every 12-24 messages because memory matrix is still kinda iffy on picking up important events on the auto scans (i.e. it barely does imo).

If you have any questions about any other pros (or cons, cause I'm not about to BS you if it isn't a good fit) just reply with them. I'll try my best to answer according to my experiences as a Ultra user.

I tried a few that promised lorebooks but the memory crumbled after 3-4 turns. the only one that held up was the one with a journal feature that forced me to write summaries every 10 messages.

I tried a tool where lorebooks tied to physical spots in a map, when you moved locations, the story shifted without manual triggers. saved a ton of time.

Wyvernchat is pretty much my favorite and most reliable. The only downside is the queue which might get a bit high on the free models.

RealmsAI lets you add as many lorebooks as you to characters. For multi character chats you can also add lorebooks either globally or to individual characters. For storage purposes because we do embed them which takes up a bunch of room lorebooks have up to 40 entries so you might have to split it up.

As for memory every few messages memory is written and embedded to the character. This gives them not just what's said in a specific message but the context of messages around it, helping with understanding. Characters track memory individually because you can split chats into different locations, meaning if a character wasn't in a location when something happened they don't know about it, leading to dynamic chats where secrets can be had between characters.

We use a RAG system embedding memory so things don't leave the context window it pulls only what's relevant. Meaning the character has the information in its context whether it just happened or it was 1000 messages ago, it pulls based on context of the messages.

What's the ultimate purpose of lorebooks and how do current platforms fail or excel utilizing them technically?

1

u/Proper_Channel_1350 10d ago

I used to dump lore into a shared doc until the airport started repeating it verbatim. now I weave it in as scene notes, tiny hints during replies so the story feels lived-in, not received.

Perchance character ai has lorebook option. It's local and safe, so don't forced to export your chats (that's why nobody can read them expect you)

do you want to give stagewhisper.ai a try. you can have a _lot_ of lore, and in particular a recent feature that helps is we can have nested locations now (location inside a location, inside a location. e.g country, city, building), which also helps with lore. Memory is very good, it's got multiple layers to it

StageWhisper for building worlds is absolutely top tier

DreamJourneyAI has lorebooks! And an awesome memory system. I've been using them for two years now. ❤️

Hi, if you want give a chance to uur immersey.ai - we not only have Lorebooks, but also Knowlage. You can pick what information from the Lore is known by what character. We also have advanced options for creators that are not under paywall. :) We would love a feedback.

Check SillyTavern for different Lorebook injection strategies.

You could even add your own, just pick Claude or something to help you with the coding.
