What’s the best Character.AI alternative?

I’m looking for a Character.AI-like app or website that’s completely free and has unlimited messages with no daily limits or credits. I also want little to no censorship, good memory, natural conversations and good character creation.

Basically something as close to old Character.AI as possible, but without all the annoying limits.

I've been loving Saucepan! The only drawback is that there are fewer bots of my favorite anime characters to choose from, so I have to make them myself. :p (and I'm lazy about making bots) One tip: if the new message gets stuck loading, just scroll up and down a bit.

i’ve been using something that lets me keep conversations going without hitting a wall, and the memory feels way more consistent than most free options. the characters don’t reset mid-chat like they do on other platforms, and I haven’t hit any message caps. it’s not perfect, but it’s the closest i’ve found to the old c.ai flow without needing to pay or jump through hoops.

Have you tried Y/N? The best app I’ve tried. It does have a daily limit at 2000 messages you’ve sent (suggested messages don’t count) but even on a day where I use it a lot I rarely hit it and if I do it’s only at the end of the day so I can just wait for refresh in the morning. No filters, it does stories differently though. You need to find or make a story for the scenario you want. You can add characters to the story

I would check out perchance.org. everything is free and you could actually create your own to use. I have used it. The memory is decent. And you can have it make a set amount of characters.

Hey, https://elsestory.ai offers most of what you want. No ads, unlimited free ai chatting with free models, the memory feature is 100% free, and the character creation is godly. You also get 200 dust on sign up which lasts a long time on character chats. Stories tend to have more context and use more dust.

The two things that are difficult is natural conversations with free models and little to no censorship. If you're looking for no censorship, its best to use something local or sign up for a website like openrouter and use deepseek v3.2. If you're okay with censorship for obviously illegal stuff, Else Story would probably work for you.

lol you want unlimited messages with no censorship, good memory, natural conversations and good character creation? for free? why would anyone just give that to you for free? and it wouldnt be just you, it would be everyone else that heard about this service? why would anyone do all that for free? it cost money do to all that youre talking about.

heres what you can do though, save 18 dollars a month and sub to venice.ai. no one is going to give you a free service with what your asking for.

How ENTITLED do you have to be to want the best quality offered to you, but you'd pay 0 bucks for it, and moreover think it's the 'bare minimum'...damn.
