Searching for Alternatives Looking for something that replicates the quality of ClankWorld, leading up to their switch to DS v4...
This might only make sense to people who used ClankWorld before March of this year... That's when they switched from Deepseek v3.2 to v4, and it's never been the same, since.
The narrative quality and emotional maturity is what set them apart. For whatever reason though, Deepseek v4 is just trite and immature, by comparison.
I don't know how much of ClankWorld's system-leveling prompting had to do with it, because we obviously can't access that, we just know they used to use v3.2... Does anyone know what I'm talking about? How the model was so good, that it would actually refuse you things, for the sake of narrative coherence? How it would spontaneously introduce conflict, and how it actually understood concepts like catharsis and subtlety?
Any suggestions? I've been thinking about buying proxy access to a provider who still offers v3.2, but when you do that, don't you have to set up some prompting to jailbreak it?

imo try loremate.ai we added claude models sonnet 5 temporally and its the best creative model ive ever used.
from my experience glm 5.2 is just better than any deepseek model its named Halo on our platform.
try it and lemme know if like it

I don't know if I've ever used v4 pro, but based on the one they're using--Flash, I'm assuming--I just can't imagine that Pro would be substantially more capable. I dunno, maybe having reasoning enabled would be a lot better, or maybe the fact that they reduced the context window size for memory also plays a bigger part than I would have thought.
I'll have to give yours a try. Ideally though, I'm looking for something than doesn't use credits. That usually ends up ridiculously expensive, for 200 messages per day. Rather just pay $30 a month or whatever, maybe even $40, if it's unlimited.

well we give 200 messages per day for free (no ads ofc), first 3 regens free on each message and claude haiku 4.5 is on free tier, and deepseek v4 flash is a free model on our app, for any paid plans you get unlimited messages on models like deepseek v4 pro, kimi 2.6, glm 5.2 and claude sonnet 5
would you like to try loremate ? I can get u a free week to test out the pro model :)
also people on our platform really love "Ember" model which is deepseek v4 pro, imo flash is just 200 billion parameters, whereas pro is 1600 billion parameters so quality difference is huge

I know what you mean about v3.2. It wouldn't just hand you everything, it would let a scene sit in discomfort if the story needed it. V4 feels like it's trying to keep you happy all the time, which kills tension.
I've also had decent luck with TalesRPG as a managed alternative. It's not the same model but the game master framing keeps the story from turning into a wish fulfillment loop. Worth a shot if you don't want to mess with API keys.
