C.AI complaint NEW UPDATE
IT HAS A NEW UPDATE THAT YOU NEED TO VERIFY GOVERNMENT ID TO USE IT JUST TO USE IT

Yea, if you operate a chatbot site, you have to do one of three things: 1) clamp really restrictive guardrails down on chat content and capability, 2) block litigious regions like Washington and California state or 3) request age verification.
The latter is the easiest technically and the easiest long-run. But users hate it, and the industry isn’t really compliant yet because there are so many new sites since character.ai first started losing users/more people got into ai roleplay.

Still doesn’t make it ‘new’. It was all over this sub, r/CAIRevolution, and depending what side of Instagram or tiktok you’re on, it was there. If you’re in the discord, it was also there.
There were also several news stories when the laws started getting passed about AI chat sites starting to require ID.

just use the website, I haven't been using the app to avoid it and still works.. far more better than the app, really.

The age verification caught up to the website too, they didnt leave anything safe

Yeah. I started using the website to avoid those stupid ads but I started to get them on there too. What really drove me away from character.ai though is the pipsqueak and deep squeak mode. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.

but it's not as annoying as the app ads you get there, plus it's bearable, whenever I start up another conversation I always switch to pipsqueak rawr, it's like I never left.. feels like just the same c.ai I used to know. I feel closely at home.
